Chicago had a 2-11 Alarm fire this morning in a two-story commercial structure at 2100 W. Fulton Street. One caller reported a fire around 4:30 in the morning and firefighters found heavy fire upon arrival. The fire was upgraded to a 2-11 Alarm when fire burned through the roof and the building was determined to have a bow string truss roof. Two tower ladders and the Snorkel from Squad 1 had elevated master streams working in addition to two ground level multi-versals. A Level I Haz Mat was also called.

Dam McInerney took in the Still & Box/EMS Plan I in the high-rise at 4800 S. Lake Park yesterday. There was a fire in one apartment on the 9th floor of a 25-story building that measured 50×250. Engine 45 laid two lines to charge the standpipe system. One line off the interior standpipe was used to fight the fire.

Chicago had a 2-11 alarm fire yesterday on the near south side prior to the Leyden fire. Jeff Rudolph was at that scene which was over rather quickly. Before he went to the Leyden fire, he took several photos and submitted these. The fire was at 1500 33rd st.
Oak Forest is on the site
Nov 26
The Oak Forest Fire Department in MABAS Division 24 has been added to the site. Oak Forest has two fire stations with a 5.6 square mile district. The have 28 full-time and 31 paid-on-call personnel. Their fire suppression apparatus is mainly Pierce, but they also have an HME/Luverne engine. Rigs are pained black over red with the exception of two ambulances which are white. The newest ambulance, from Lifeline, is black over red to match the trucks.
Along with the station and apparatus photos, Karl Klotz provided closeup images of company decals from three of the rigs.
Fire broke out in a three-story apartment building this afternoon around 1PM in Rogers Park. First arriving units reported flames through the roof. Shortly thereafter the 9th Battalion requested a Box Alarm and then a 2-11 as fire involved units on the second and third floors of the building at the corner of Newgard Avenue and Northshore Avenue. Tower 21, Truck 47, and Truck 25 had their aerials deployed in addition to multiple ground ladders. Engines 59, 70, 71, and 102 (running with a spare #D546) were all pumping.
A small gallery of images that were taken after the 2-11 was struck out can be seen HERE.
Steve Redick submitted several images from a 2-11 alarm fire on the 13th of October. His summary is:
1340 E 72nd St last night…traffic was horrendous so there was nothing for me by the time I arrived. The fire involved a large ornate vacant rectory, with what I think was a gable roof. The fire bldg was attached by a walkway on the first floor to the body of a very large traditional style church. It appeared to me that the fire was all top floor and attic so exposure risk was pretty minimal. In my shots of the rear you can see the debris pile from what I assume was the collapsed gable roof. Lots of spares at this job….
Just when we thought we had a large enough project to undertake … listing each department, each station and every piece of rolling stock in 19 MABAS Divisions … Karl Klotz begins submitting department profiles from a 20th Division, MABAS Division 7 in Kankakee County!
So, we welcome the departments of Division 7 and have posted three of them to get things started.
- The Grant Park Fire Protection District covers 62 square miles from two stations with 32 paid-on-call firefighters and officers. They have three E-ONE rigs, an engine from American LaFrance, plus ambulances from Horton and Road Rescue. They recently opened a new headquarters station which we mentioned HERE.
- In Momence, the fire department covers a whopping 92 square miles with a roster of 35 paid-on-call personnel from one station. They have three engines, a brush rig, two tankers, and a rescue squad. The apparatus was built by E-ONE, Pierce, and 4-Guys, plus one tanker that was built in 1964 by W.S.Darley and re-chassisied in 1989 on a Ford C8000 by Quality Manufacturing. Quality was purchased in 2003 by Spartan and now (with what was Luverne Fire Apparatus) have become what is known as Crimson.

Glenview site updates
Jul 7
There has been a little house keeping on the site between the Glenview stations. It cam e to our attention that some reserve vehicles were in the wrong locations and hopefully now the site is more accurate. The following changes/additions have been made:
- Ambulance 6R was moved to Station 14
- Engine 8R (the HME Sle/Central States) has been moved to Station 14
- Engine 8R (the HME 1871/Luverne) has been placed at Station 8
- An image of the MESS Canteen unit M-4 has been added to Station 13
- A new image of Engine 7 with corrected specs has been added to Station 7
Additionally, Battalion 6 has a new vehicle.
Another department in Division 24 has been added to the site thanks to Karl Klotz. Minus the brush rig, the entire Flossmoor fleet is now available to view HERE. Flossmoor was one of the first area departments to embrace the maximum height cab extensions beginning in 1990 with an early Pierce Lance followed in 1994 by an even larger cab from HME on a unit built by Luverne. Both of these units featured fully enclosed top mounted pump modules. Their newest engine also features a raised roof cab from HME although it is shorter and lower than the earlier model. This 2000 model year Central States engine also features a top mount pump panel but it is not enclosed within the cab. Rounding out their suppression fleet is a 1996 custom Sutphen 70′ mid-ship tower ladder. All of their apparatus are painted black over red.
