South Elgin 2nd Alarm 1-20-11

South Elgin had a house fire on Thursday at 10N917 Gale Street in Elgin Township (Kane County). The fire was apparently blamed on a bird’s nest which ignited and sent fire into the attic of the home. It was a 15-degree day that felt like 5 degrees with the wind.

Scott Peterson submitted several shots from the scene after the fire was brought under control.

From The Courier-News:

According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the home just after 9:30 a.m. by the home’s two occupants. Firefighters found fire in a wall and a deep-seated fire in the attic, with flames coming out of windows on both sides of the structure. Reports stated that the home actually had multiple attic units as a result of remodeling projects and the fire had spread among them.

The Courier-News has an article about the fire HERE.

Departments that responded to provide mutual aid included Elgin, Pingree Grove, Elburn, Bartlett, Hanover Park, and West Dundee.

Leyden 3-11

The All-Stars Gentlemen’s Club at 11645 W. Grand Avenue in Northlake, IL was destroyed today by fire. The building went up quickly and by all accounts came down just as fast. The temperature was in the high teens, and the header could be seen for a good 20 miles. The club was located within the Leyden Township Fire Protection District one block east of the I-294 tollway. Many departments from MABAS Division 20 were on the scene including Rosemont, Maywood, Westchester, Schiller Park, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, Elmwood Park, Bensenville, River Grove, Bellwood, and Franklin Park. Several area photographers descended on the scene to document the fire but few arrived in time for the most spectacular images. Steve Redick, Jeff Rudolph, Larry Shapiro, and Tim Olk all arrived after the roof was in. Here are a few quick shots from Tim Olk and a panoramic view showing the back of the site by Steve Redick. More images will follow.

Oak Lawn 2-11

updated with more photos at 11:45PM

Oak Lawn pulled a 2-11 late this afternoon for fire in a strip mall on 95th Street. Hank Sajovic was on the scene within minutes and submitted several terrific images of the buildings before companies got water to the front. The shots depict firefighters in the rear where the fire was discovered at Eva’s Bridal Shop and then the progression of heavy smoke and fire out the front on 95th Street as the fire spread to the Radio Shack next door.

Chicago apparatus on-scene

Steve Redick submitted several images from a 2-11 alarm fire on the 13th of October. His summary is:

1340 E 72nd St last night…traffic was horrendous so there was nothing for me by the time I arrived. The fire involved a large ornate vacant rectory, with what I think was a gable roof. The fire bldg was attached by a walkway on the first floor to the body of a very large traditional style church. It appeared to me that the fire was all top floor and attic so exposure risk was pretty minimal. In my shots of the rear you can see the debris pile from what I assume was the collapsed gable roof. Lots of spares at this job….
