This from Dan McInerney:
United Airlines (B772, N782UA, ORD-NRT) 1/7/20This UA 772 made it to northern WI before turning around to come back with engine trouble. The Chicago Fire Department responded with a full ARFF assignment and escorted the plane back to the gate. As the plane turns you can see they had to shut the #2 engine down as evidenced by the lack of exhaust blur. Seen in the pictures is only a small part of the ARFF response; the Chicago Fire Department has the largest contingent of staffed ARFF vehicles and personnel of any airport in the world.

Mount Prospect firefighters were called to 1418 E. Green Lane Tuesday afternoon (6/18/19) for fire in a single-family house. Fire appeared to burn in the attic and firefighters were evacuated from the house just before the second floor ceiling collapsed. Fire vented through the roof and companies took a defensive posture. The Code 3 was elevated to a Code 4 upon the arrival of the initial units and was later upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm. Mount Prospect firefighters were initially assisted by Rolling Meadows, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines, and Arlington Heights. The box alarm brought companies from Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, North Maine, Schaumburg, Northbrook, and Hoffman Estates.

The pilot did an excellent job bringing it in with no injuries and minor damage to the airframe.

Approx 51st Street
Norfolk Railroad Operations complex 3/2/97This was a fire in a crane unit that moved intermodal containers around. E50 eventually needed to be supplied, so they used T18 (notice the outriggers
🙂 ) to run a line.
I can’t for the life of me remember how we drove into the yard, but we beat E50 in. We had full access to the incident, and several NS yard employees watched. Now days if you tried this, they’d send a SWAT team after you.

This is our new ambulance, a 2018 Ford F550/AEV. It features four wheel drive and a power cot. It will run out of OPFD Station 1 with A612, and manpower permitting, A613 will run out of E603.

More from Dan McInerney:
On March 14, 1997, myself and a group of firebuffs from out of town visited Engine 91, Squad 2, and Battalion 7. Cortez Holland was the squad company officer that day, and couldn’t have been nicer. Shortly after our visit, he got promoted to BC. They pulled the rig around the to the parking lot and gave us rides in the Snorkel. We then took in a still on Fullerton with them and the 7th, which turned out to be nothing. Afterwards, we drove by E124’s house just as they were starting a drill with T38. We also showed them the T58 memorial park.
