Des Plaines Ambulance 61 and North Maine FPD Engine 1 were dispatched to 51 N. East River Road early this morning (12/22/21) for trouble breathing. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire from the 1st floor living room of a three-unit, split-level house and reported the working fire. The ambulance crew reportedly made entry prior to the first hose line and rescued a resident from a second floor bedroom that was filling with smoke. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional resources. The fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of all responding companies and was contained to the unit of origin.

A few images from the house fire in Kildeer, 12-1-21 by Larry Shapiro
Excerpts from wgntv.com:
In the darkness that comes earlier these days, flames lit up the sky for miles in Kildeer following a massive fire.
A multi-story home caught fire and is uninhabitable. The structure may be a total loss. The size of the fire necessitated a mutual aid response from a dozen neighboring communities. Firefighters used a dry hydrant where water is pulled from retention ponds because there are no fire hydrants in the area.
Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Pilgrad says that given the flames’ intensity, the exterior side of one of the adjacent homes had to be drenched as a precaution.
Everyone made it out of the home safely and did not require emergency care or hospitalization. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

More photos from the Historic fire: Goldblatt’s fire in Mt Prospect, 1977 (pt1)
Hi,I just found your blog as I was searching for old photos of the Goldblatts fire. I grew up in Des Plaines in the Craig Manor subdivision at the corner of Wolf & Central Roads. We could see the fire from our house and quickly drove over there. I was 14 at the time and had a cheap old camera and took these photos myself. You may share them anywhere. Please attribute them to: Carole (formerly of Des Plaines)~Carole

This from Eric Haak:
The Bloomfield-Genoa City Fire Department in Wisconsin had a 5-Alarm fire in an apartment building Sunday morning (1/5). The call initially came in at 9:00 reporting a first floor apartment’s living room was on fire. First-in units reported the apartment was fully involved and soon after they reported explosions. It looked like the second floor apartment collapsed into the first and fire was through the roof. These pictures were taken over an hour after the original call.
