Chicago 4-11 Alarm Fire 12-29-12 (pt 1)

Commercial fire today at 2441 W. 21st Street came in after 1PM. First units found a three-story, brick, commercial factory/warehouse well involved. The alarms quickly escalated to a 4-11 with an EMS Plan I and a Haz Mat Level I. The building was bounded on the west by railroad tracks and on the north by the elevated CTA tracks which were shut down for several hours. The EMS Plan was secured quickly and the 4-11 wasn’t struck out until roughly 4PM. Some companies remained on the scene throughout the night.

Two Snorkels (Squad 1 and the reserve Snorkel) were working along with four tower ladders (5, 10, 39 & 54).

We have a large amount of coverage from multiple contributors which will be posted in several posts tonight and tomorrow.

This from Josh Boyajian:

Even though I’m not at the scene, thought I would share these pics from Laramie and Ogden in Cicero of the header!

This from Drew Gresik:
Hey everyone,
I just took the ride into the City to check out the 4-11 with Level 1 Haz-Mat and EMS Plan 1 at 2444 W 21st Street. The header was huge, I saw it all the way in Berwyn on Ogden Avenue. When I got in the neighborhood of the fire, the Chicago Police had set a four block perimeter all around the fire building preventing any closeups of the scene. Staging is at 22nd and Western I believe. Traffic was really bad as one could have guessed. Here are some shots of the header and Engine 113 which was screaming down 22nd Street. Keep up the good work on the site guys!
From,
Drew Gresik

Chicago 2-11 Alarm Fire 2-18-11

Chicago had a 2-11 Alarm fire this morning in a two-story commercial structure at 2100 W. Fulton Street. One caller reported a fire around 4:30 in the morning and firefighters found heavy fire upon arrival. The fire was upgraded to a 2-11 Alarm when fire burned through the roof and the building was determined to have a bow string truss roof. Two tower ladders and the Snorkel from Squad 1 had elevated master streams working in addition to two ground level multi-versals. A Level I Haz Mat was also called.

Chicago 2-11 alarm commercial fire 1-26-11

Chicago companies responded to a fire at 1896 N. Milwaukee Avenue last night around 9PM and encountered heavy smoke pushing out of a one-story brick commercial structure. Exposures on either side of the building were three-story brick buildings. The fire was elevated to a 2-11 alarm as companies went defensive pulling all personnel out of the building that was determined to have a light-weight truss roof. There were few means of reaching the deep-seated fire from the front and rear as windows were minimal. Engine 35 was lead out in Sector 1 with Truck 28, Tower 10, and Squad 2A. Engine 57 was in the alley and Engines 30 and 43 had hydrants at the south end of the block. Dennis McGuire, Jr., Tim Olk, Steve Redick, and Larry Shapiro all took in the fire. Images will be posted later today.

A brief article can be found HERE.
