Coal City Station 2
Jun 11
The volunteer fire department in South Wilmington has been added to the site. Also in Division 15, South Wilmington is in Grundy County, unlike Braidwood which is in Will County. South Wilmington has a small department with an ambulance, a brush truck and two engines working out of a single house. Once again we thank Karl Klotz for providing the images and information that make it possible to post another department.
The Braidwood Fire Department in Will County has been added to the site under Division 15. Braidwood has just one station but it’s packed with interesting apparatus. As a matter of fact, it requires two pages on this site to display all of the vehicles. They run two ambulances, one engine, one pumper tanker, a mid-mount tower ladder and three squads. Braidwood is home to one of Illinois’ nuclear power plants and their unique logo depicts the transition throughout the years from mining coal to nuclear power. All photos were provided by Karl Klotz.
Karl Klotz has sent word that Frankfort has officially opened Station 4. They are running and engine and ambulance out of that house. Although the current KME engine is ‘Engine 2’, the real KME Engine 4 will be back soon from having some work done on it.
The volunteer fire department in Hometown has been added with photos from Karl Klotz. Hometown is in Division 21 and has one station. They have two Road Rescue ambulances, one Pierce engine, one E-ONE engine, and a buggy. They have a small district which is just 0.5 square miles.
Tinley Park updates
May 18
Karl Klotz stopped by Tinley Park last week so that he could provide some updated photos for the site. The page for Station 1 now has photos of Battalion 201 and Battalion 202, while the page for Station 2 has an updated photo of the tower ladder which is now lettered as Truck Co 202 (previously it was lettered as 203).
The Lansing Fire Department with three stations in Division 24 has been added to the site thanks to Karl Klotz. Lansing has stations 2,3, and 4. They no longer actively use their station 1 which is currently being utilized for storage. Lansing recently took delivery of a Pierce 100′ aerial platform (PAP) on a Velocity chassis which was previously mentioned HERE. Their fleet is a mixture of apparatus from Pierce, 3D, KME, Osage, Horton and a large squad built on a KME chassis that is painted white and black.
Karl Klotz has been busy photographing departments in Division 24. Thanks to Karl, The Glenwood Fire Department has been added to the site. Glenwood has two stations which include a pair of the first HME Ahrens Fox apparatus to have been sold in Illinois back in 2004.
CFD gives engine to Dixmoor
May 10
The Chicago Fire Department gave a retired engine to The Dixmoor Fire Department in Division 22. The 1992 Spartan/Luverne 1500/500 was assigned to Engine 30 before going into the pool of spare engines.
For those interested in ambulances, Medtec has delivered several area units in 2010. One mentioned in an earlier post and photographed by Karl Klotz went to the Troy FPD, which can be seen HERE. Others include LaGrange Park, Elmwood Park, and a pair of units to South Holland.
Another post will be forthcoming which highlights the dozen or so 2009 deliveries, several of which have been photographed and posted already on this site.
