As the Chicago area saw it’s first snow of the season, area fire departments responded to many accidents. Jeff Rudolph took in a two-car, head-on collision this morning at Route 173 west of Delaney Road in Wadsworth, IL. The Newport Township FPD responded with several units and was aided by Zion and Winthrop Harbor. Six patients were transported with what did not appear to be life-threatening injuries.

Drew Gresik has again sent some images from a recent MVA that was responed to by both Riverside and North Riverside companies.

A few weeks back, there was a 3 car collision on Des Plaines Avenue between Riverside and North Riverside. It was in the middle of morning rush hour and caused quite a backup. On scene were both the Fire and Police Departments of North Riverside and Riverside. Engine 1621 of Riverside Fire/Rescue as well as Engine 807 from North Riverside Fire Department responded, as did both town's primary ambulances. Many police units were on scene to help with the flow of traffic.

New orders
Oct 14
- The Waukegan Fire Department, in Division 4 (Lake County) recently placed an order for a KME Severe Service engine.
- The Long Grove Fire Protection District, in Division 4 (Lake County) recently placed an order with Alexis for a brush rig on a Ford chassis with a body similar in design to Rescue 55 which was built by KME. The new unit will have 300 gallons of water, 10 gallons of foam, and a 500-GPM pump.
- The Lake Villa Fire District (also in Division 4, Lake County) has two new ambulances on order from Osage Ambulance in Linn, MO. Both will match the fleet and be Type III designs on Ford E450 chassis with one exception. These ambulances will arrive painted red instead of the blue and white color scheme of the existing ambulances which were part of the Lake Villa Rescue Squad. The new units are expected to be delivered in March of 2011.
- The Evanston Fire Department has ordered a Pierce Arrow XT tractor-drawn aerial. They received a grant to pay for the unit which is expected to be completed in March of 2011.
- Evanston also is ordering a new ambulance. As of now, we do not have the specs although it is believed to be coming with an IHC chassis like their current units.

Drew Gresik answered our call for photos with this image from a recent MVA in North Riverside.

On September 25, 2010, there was a head-on collision between two vehicles on 1st Avenue in North Riverside. The occupants in the cars were injured and taken down the road to Loyola University Medical Center. The North Riverside Fire Department and Police Department as well as the Chicago Zoological Society Police Department and the Brookfield Police Department were the first units on-scene. The first ambulances on-scene were from fellow MABAS 11 departments Berwyn and Forest Park. Riverside and Broadview ambulances were called, but only Broadview was needed. Drew Gresik photo

Lockport updates
Sep 27
Lockport Lt. John Matthews keeps us current and up-to-date with his department. He recently sent us pictures of Lockport‘s new 2010 IHC/Medtec ambulance at station1 and the new brush unit as well. John informs us that the old ambulance 1 has become reserve ambulance 1 now at station6, and the previous reserve unit is gone.

We received the following information:
Franklin Park's new ambulance is in service. It's a 2010 Ford/Osage. Different color scheme than usual for them (Franklin Park). It's all white with decals applied to it. ... looks like a demo unit. It's also not numbered as Ambulance 1, it's numbered 482. Rick Armentano Jr Elmwood Park FD

Although media coverage for the response drill was extensive, evidently it was all centered at the north staging site at NIPSTA in Glenview. Reportedly the sites in Hoffman Estates and Tinley Park received much less media attention. Larry Shapiro photo
