Historic fire: Goldblatt’s fire in Mt Prospect, 1977 (more)

More photos from the Historic fire: Goldblatt’s fire in Mt Prospect, 1977 (pt1)

Hi,

I just found your blog as I was searching for old photos of the Goldblatts fire. I grew up in Des Plaines in the Craig Manor subdivision at the corner of Wolf & Central Roads. We could see the fire from our house and quickly drove over there. I was 14 at the time and had a cheap old camera and took these photos myself. You may share them anywhere.

Berwyn 2nd Alarm commercial fire , 1-16-14

This from Steve Redick:

6212 Cermak at “oh my god it’s early” this am (04:59) … I suspect this fire was in for a bit before I heard about it. I arrived just as the roof went in It was snowing just enough so I really couldn’t use flash, so they are all available light shots. Oak Park tower, two Berwyn ladder pipes. Looked like the members were in both exposures and I suspect communication was minimal although I really don’t know for sure.

Chicago FD Still Alarm 3-23-13

This from Steve Redick:

4046 Van Buren – Saturday..I took this one in because it was advertised as a fire in a building with a red ‘X’ … this was the first example I was able to see with the new safety marking system. It’s either a red square, a square with 1 slash, or a square with an X like this one, in the order of potential danger. Interior ops have to be assesed and approved before anyone can work inside. I believe this will be a very common site on the fireground. Also got a fair shot of one of the new buggies.

Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire 3-15-13

This from Erik Haak:

At 1631hrs on Friday afternoon, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office dispatched a working fire response to 1650 W. 75th Place.  At 1634hrs, Truck 50 confirmed a working fire in a 50×100 1-story ordinary commercial structure.  Truck 50 reported a possible truss roof and almost immediately called for the Still & Box.  Battalion 20 set up defensive operations with Engine 129 operating in sector 1 and Tower Ladder 39 setting up in a lot to the east of the fire building.  Squad 5’s snorkle operated on the parkway to the east of the building as well.  At 1656hrs, 2-2-5 pulled a 2-11.  Tower Ladder 34 was set up to the west of the fire building at the end of Paulina Street.  The first photo taken in my series was shot nearly an hour after the fire started.  The 2-11 was struck out at 1821hrs and companies stayed on scene chasing hot spots until just before 2000hrs.
