New rehab unit for the Chicago Fire Department

Chicago Fire Department (IL) Mobile Rehab Vehicle

This mobile rehabilitation vehicle was recently completed for the Chicago Fire Department and features a Freightliner MT-55G chassis, TQS 308HP V8 engine and an Allison 2200HS automatic transmission. The all aluminum body has several of our Extreme Duty body storage compartments for gear storage and a custom aluminum flip down step entry. We added a power retracting awning to the curbside for shade. A Rosco Vision 360° camera surround camera system has also been added. An Igloo 5 gallon water dispenser is secured to the rear of the vehicle with a truck mount bracket.

Inside, the vehicle features a sliding cab divider door. A single workstation has been added with a commercial grade cabinet. Dry erase writing surface is included on the cabinet door. Fixed bench seats are included on the driver and passenger sides. Overhead ceiling grab bars are also installed. Dual Klimaire mini split heat pump systems are installed along with ventilation fans. A direct discharge furnace handles the heating duties in the winter. An Onan Commercial Quiet gas generator supplies plenty of electric power to the vehicle. We also prewired the vehicle for communications radios.

Chicago FD Lieutenant Jan Tchoryk LODD 4-5-23 (more)

Excerpts from

Exactly one year ago Friday, veteran Chicago FD Lieutenant Jan Tchoryk made the ultimate sacrifice. On Friday, the badge he wore for more than two decades was officially retired joining the wall of fallen heroes at the Chicago Fire Department.

With one more salute, the City of Chicago, the Tchoryk family, and the fire department he so loved came to pay tribute one year after Lt. Tchoryk died in the line of duty.

It was April 5, 2023 when Tchoryk was leading a ladder crew in a staircase, trying to put out the wind-driven blaze in a Gold Coast high-rise, when he collapsed. Tchoryk had risen through the ranks over a 26-year career after joining the department in 1997.

An avid outdoor-man, Tchoryk’s name is also now forever etched at the firefighter memorial park along Chicago’s lakefront in the heart of the city he served and loved.
