More from Steve Redick on the 3-11 Alarm fire at S. Union on Saturday:
We had a 3-11 today at 45th & Union..4 frame dwellings. Eng 50 boxed it on arrival. Fire appeared to be heaviest in the rear. Numerous handlines, snorkel and tower ladder were used. Fire was in full possesion of 3 buildings when I arrived and companies were still setting up. This is a congested area and many units stretched lines down gangways from the next block over (see 29 photo).More images on my site:
The members did a lot of work here..this was a tough job.

From Steve Redick:
This fire occurred about 2300 or so on Monday night…the building was a combination of several commercial occupancies. An unusual construction feature as you can see in the attached aerial daytime view was some kind of added on truss roof structure. I’m not sure just how this altered the space and use of the building but this added a great deal of concern on the fireground. Initial reports, based on radio traffic indicated a haze of smoke in the restaurant. Also I heard on fireground later in the incident there was a large quantity of tires stored in one of the buildings as well. When I arrived, fire had gone through the roof and they had a snorkel and 2 towers working. Moderate smoke conditions prevailed for at least an hour with little apparent progress. Note the shot of the tower boom resting on the streetlight wire……More to follow

This from Dan McInerney:
Working fire on the second floor of a 2 sty vacant rowhouse at 3554 S. Prairie. Companies- E16, T15, E19, T11, Bn 2, 5-5-1, 2-7-3. RIT Bn 15 and T4. I got there late but it was too nice a day not to shoot some rigs. This area has a large concentration of row house construction extending well to the east and south of here. Some really beautiful 2 story greystones with designs and styles you don’t see elsewhere in the city. It’s a shame to see a lot of them boarded up and vacant.

ABC Chicago has an article HERE.
A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said a southside warehouse that caught fire Tuesday night will be a total loss.
“Totally involved. … This is a major fire,” read a message posted to Twitter at about 9:50 p.m. Moments later there was a message that a portion of the structure had collapsed.
Firefighters were in “defensive mode” in attacking the fire in a building on the 3700 block of South Ashland Avenue, spokesman Larry Langford said.
But despite his initial, confident remark that the fire would be isolated, flames spread to at least one nearby building. The owner of a printing company, at 3801 S. Ashland Ave., was on the scene and expressed concerns about chemicals inside that could explode.

Dennis McGuire, Jr. submitted several images of Engine 16’s new house.
While there, Dennis found something else:
I took this photo yesterday while at Engine 16’s new house. The building was never a firehouse, but the guy who owns it made it look like one. Supposedly he also owns a fire engine.
