More from Steve Redick on the 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago on 7-1-13:
After a lengthy period it was determined to shut down the master streams and let the fire consume the roof area to provide for better access. This happened in some photographically good fashion, and there was a sudden collapse of the aformentioned truss add on. I didn’t capture the collapse but the sharp eye will notice the before and after shots. The reserve snorkel was called for and put to work, always an interesting event to photograph. A 3-11 was requested at this point due to no companies left in staging. I suspect none were used. Shot another pano and as Denny McGuire pointed out it was unique to see 2 snorkels and 2 towers (both HME) operating at the same time. I left the scene shortly thereafter and was treated with a view of eng 1 arriving at it’s change to engine 16’s new quarters 53 e Pershing … didn’t shoot it though. Hope you found the photos and video interesting.

From Steve Redick:
This fire occurred about 2300 or so on Monday night…the building was a combination of several commercial occupancies. An unusual construction feature as you can see in the attached aerial daytime view was some kind of added on truss roof structure. I’m not sure just how this altered the space and use of the building but this added a great deal of concern on the fireground. Initial reports, based on radio traffic indicated a haze of smoke in the restaurant. Also I heard on fireground later in the incident there was a large quantity of tires stored in one of the buildings as well. When I arrived, fire had gone through the roof and they had a snorkel and 2 towers working. Moderate smoke conditions prevailed for at least an hour with little apparent progress. Note the shot of the tower boom resting on the streetlight wire……More to follow

This from reader Eric Haak:
Still & Box Alarm @ 47th and Knox on June 27th. Engine 34 pulled up just before 1:45 pm to the Right Away Pallet Company and within 2 minutes called for the box. The area involved was a 125 x 125 storage lot stacked tight with 10-foot tall columns of pallets. Engine 34 fed Tower Ladder 54 inside the company’s yard while Truck 52 pulled into a lot to the west of the involved area and was fed by Engine 123. Tower Ladder 39 set up in the empty parking lot to the south of the pallet yard and was fed by Engine 32. A total of 5 lines were used to bring the blaze under control and 2-2-5 struck out the box @ 2:38.
Hank Sajovic also went to the scene and submitted a few images.
