Tragedy struck Wilmington today when four teens drowned after the car they were riding in plunged into a creek.

The four families waited and worried and finally searched the streets through the long night. Their children, all friends from high school, had never returned home.

Shortly after daybreak, they got the grim news. A car was found overturned in a creek, and inside were the bodies of two boys and two girls, ages 14 to 17. Their children.

The four were driving along Ballou Road sometime overnight when the two-door Mitsubishi plunged into Forked Creek just west of Warner Bridge Road.

Around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a school bus driver saw a tire sticking out of the creek, officials said. Emergency crews arrived and found the guard rail on the Ballou Road bridge over Forked Creek missing. A dive team called to the scene saw at least one body in the car, and a tow truck pulled the two-door Mitsubishi from the water. A blue tent was set up as the bodies were taken from the car.

Secretary  of state records show Cheyenne had received her driver’s license in June and had owned a Mitsubishi. Because she had her driver’s license for less than a year, she was only allowed to have one passenger in her car.

Aurora woman dies and three others were injured as a car went into a retention pond in Aurora.

This from the Chicago Tribune:

A woman is dead and three people were hospitalized after a vehicle plunged into a retention pond in west suburban Aurora Saturday evening, state police said.

The vehicle left the road just before 7:30 p.m., off the eastbound exit ramp of Interstate 88 at Eola Road, according to Trooper Michelle Kistulinec of the Illinois State Police.

The woman who died was identified as Emory Diaz Sepulveda, 20, of View Street in Aurora, according to DuPage County Coroner Dr. Richard Jorgensen. She was declared dead on the scene.

When first responders arrived, the vehicle was upside down in the water, Kistulinec said.

Three of the vehicle’s occupants were taken to area hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Kistulenic said.

Divers searched the icy pond for hours for the fourth occupant and located Diaz’s body about 3 a.m.

One man died and three escaped after car goes into Romeoville pond.

This from the Chicago Tribune:

A Bolingbrook man died after he was pulled from a car that plunged into a pond in Romeoville early … [Monday], authorities said.

The Pontiac Grand Prix went into the retention pond near the T-intersection of Lakeview Drive and Remington Boulevard around 12:30 a.m., according to Romeovillage Police Sgt. Chris Burne.

Three occupants freed themselves and were able to get out, but the fourth remained trapped in the car, Burne said.

A dive team freed him and found a faint pulse, Burne said. The man, identified by police as Adam M. Johnson, 28, was taken by ambulance to Adventist Bolingrook Hospital. He was pronounced dead there.

The three others were treated at the scene.
