One car MVA in Wheeling, 9-23-16

This from Larry Shapiro:

Wheeling police and fire units were dispatched to 92 George Road just before noon today (9/23/16) for a one-car crash with entrapment. When they arrived, they found a small SUV resting sideways on the support cables for a utility pole in front of the house. The driver was conscious in the vehicle, but unable to get out.

Firefighters stabilized the car and then removed the driver who was transported to the hospital.

A Com Ed crew was requested to evaluate the situation and they determined that there was damage to the pole. After securing the pole with a truck-mounted boom, the two steel cables were cut dropping the car to the ground for removal.

Fatal MVA on I-355, 3-27-16

From a reader:

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get pictures, however, I was listening to the fire radio at that time . Bolingbrook engine and medic 3 got there first. Lisle Woodridge engine 52, medic 51, battalion 51 and tower 53 were toned out shortly after Bolingbrook got on scene. Bolingbrook engine 5 was also on scene. The victim was announced DOA . ( medic 51 got canceled, and as a side note, lisle Woodridge had a ton of medical calls yesterday, so medic 52 was unavailable)

Excerpts from CBSChicago.com:

A 19-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-355 Sunday evening near southwest suburban Woodridge.

About 8:30 p.m., a 2002 GMC Envoy was traveling north on I-355 near 75th Street when it struck the right wall, rolled over several times and trapped the driver under it, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver, Adalberto Lopez, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:04 p.m., police said. He was the only occupant of the SUV and no other injuries were reported.

This from Steve Redick:

A few shots of what was dispatched as a pin in, EB JFK at Natoma. Nobody was pinned when I arrived. At least 1 was removed to a trauma center. Looked bad … hopefully the injuries were minor. A good view of the blocking technique.

School bus crash in Grayslake, 1-5-16

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A school bus with no children onboard rolled over Tuesday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Rollins Road near Sheldon Road.

According to the Grayslake Fire Department, three people were treated for minor injuries at the scene, which was called in to emergency dispatch at 8:16 a.m.

A driver and an attendant were the only people on the bus, which is assigned to Round Lake School District 116. Both got out of the bus through an emergency hatch before first responders police and firefighters arrived.

Grayslake Police Cmdr. Brian Ernst said the bus was headed west on Rollins Road, a four-lane roadway, when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction tried to pass another car and lost control. The passing vehicle, driven by a 25-year-old Ingleside man, crossed the centerline and struck the bus, causing it to rollover on its side.

The first collision caused a secondary crash with two other vehicles involved.
