Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire 3-15-13

This from Erik Haak:

At 1631hrs on Friday afternoon, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office dispatched a working fire response to 1650 W. 75th Place.  At 1634hrs, Truck 50 confirmed a working fire in a 50×100 1-story ordinary commercial structure.  Truck 50 reported a possible truss roof and almost immediately called for the Still & Box.  Battalion 20 set up defensive operations with Engine 129 operating in sector 1 and Tower Ladder 39 setting up in a lot to the east of the fire building.  Squad 5’s snorkle operated on the parkway to the east of the building as well.  At 1656hrs, 2-2-5 pulled a 2-11.  Tower Ladder 34 was set up to the west of the fire building at the end of Paulina Street.  The first photo taken in my series was shot nearly an hour after the fire started.  The 2-11 was struck out at 1821hrs and companies stayed on scene chasing hot spots until just before 2000hrs.

New engine for Lisle Woodridge FPD

This from Josh Boyajian:

Here are two pictures taken up in Wisconsin at Pierce prior to the delivery of Lisle Woodridge‘s  new  Engine 52. The new rig is on a Dash CF cab, instead of an arrow xt. These pictures were shared to me via a Lisle Firefighter.

Geneva Fire Department History

This from Drew Smith:

I was a contract FF/PM at the Geneva FD from 12/1/82 until 11/30/89. While I was there I organized this live fire exercise sometime between 1985 and 1988. The location was the east side of Kirk Road north of IL Route 38. At that time the intersection and adjacent area was just beginning to become developed.

In the group shot you can see the current fire chief, Steve Olson, in the red helmet on the left end of the second row. Current deputy chief Jerry Koster is in the red helmet second from the right end of the second row. Then-fire chief Frank Johnson is in the white T-shirt front and center. All of the other officers in red helmets are since retired. Several others pictured currently serve with other west suburban FDs such as Batavia, Carol Stream, Oak Park, Saint Charles, and Naperville.

South Elgin orders new engine

A reader submitted the following information:

South Elgin Fire Protection District has ordered a new Rosenbauer engine. This is a similar spec to the Spartan/Crimson engine in South Elgin's fleet. The new engine will replace the current Pierce Lance used as Engine 22. Alexis, Rosenbauer, and Spartan ERV submitted bids. South Elgin will phase out it's Seagrave H-cab that has been used as a reserve. South Elgin FPD expects to take delivery in a year.
