Chicago Executive Airport – Aircraft emergency 12/5/18

1967 Cessna 310N with unlocked front landing gear

Prospect Heights and Wheeling Fire Departments

The aircraft with 2 souls on board circled for approximately 90 minutes to burn off excess fuel before landing. The pilot did an excellent job bringing it in with no injuries and minor damage to the airframe.

This was a fire in a crane unit that moved intermodal containers around. E50 eventually needed to be supplied, so they used T18 (notice the outriggers 🙂 ) to run a line.

I can’t for the life of me remember how we drove into the yard, but we beat E50 in. We had full access to the incident, and several NS yard employees watched. Now days if you tried this, they’d send a SWAT team after you.

New ambulance for Oak Park

This is our new ambulance, a 2018 Ford F550/AEV. It features four wheel drive and a power cot. It will run out of OPFD Station 1 with A612, and manpower permitting, A613 will run out of E603.

Chicago Fire Department, 4-11 alarm, Broadway and Gunnison, 12/24/94

I took in this fire from home on 12//24/94. It was in a vacant auto dealership, probably 100×200 with a bowstring truss roof. Needless to say, they didn’t make a push inside as it was a done deal upon arrival. The site is now a parking lot for a large strip mall. Pictures were taken with a cheap camera that was all I could afford at the time.

Still and Box Alarm in Chicago, 10-8-18

I was downtown for the marathon, when a Still and Box alarm and EMS Plan 1 came in just after 1pm for the subway fire on the CTA Red line at 230 S. State St. E1 and AT1 went down to check and found nothing; the radio traffic indicated there was a malfunction with one of the el cars, but no smoke/fire. Due to the marathon taking place, there was a significant police response along with the usual compliment of fire apparatus.
