Chicago Fire Department history

This fro Dan McInerney:

Chicago Fire Department
1554hrs: Special duty, : E50, 1559hrs: T18, E16, Bn18
Approx 51st Street
Norfolk Railroad Operations complex 3/2/97

This was a fire in a crane unit that moved intermodal containers around. E50 eventually needed to be supplied, so they used T18 (notice the outriggers ðŸ™‚ ) to run a line.

I can’t for the life of me remember how we drove into the yard, but we beat E50 in. We had full access to the incident, and several NS yard employees watched. Now days if you tried this, they’d send a SWAT team after you.

Chicago Fire Department news – Mickelberry Fire Ceremony

This from Steve Redick:

On Wednesday I had the honor of attending the memorial for the 50th anniversary of the Mickelberry tragedy. The members of Engine 50 and Truck 18 (first due to the incident), put a lot of time and effort into a very nice ceremony and reception at company quarters. I have a personal connection to the event as my father responded there on Snorkel Squad 3. His company arrived after the explosion had taken place so they all escaped injury. It was well attended by family members of those lost as well as some members who were at the incident back in 1968. I present a few images and video to give an idea of the events. More photos:

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 9-23-17 (more)

This from Drew

23 Sep 17- The 5th Battalion and companies were stilled out at approximately 0645 hours. While en route, the Englewood FAO announced a Still & Box at this location for reports of people trapped inside the building. Engine Co. 84 and Truck Co. 51 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire in the rear of a 3 story ordinary apartment building. Battalion 5 got on scene shortly after and reported fire through the roof. A 2-11 Alarm was requested by 2-2-1 who pulled all companies out of the building due to dangerous fire conditions. (5) 2-1/2” lines were led out while Tower Ladder 37 and Squad Co. 5’s Snorkel worked elevated master streams. Engine Co. 84, Engine Co. 45, and Engine Co. 50 utilized their deck guns. Searches could not be completed due to structural integrity of the building. Companies also battled high humidity and high 80s temperature. Still Alarm companies: E84 E47 T51 T30 BN5 Sq5 2-7-5 RIT BN6 T15, A55 A36 4-5-8.
