This from Dan McInerney:
Chicago Fire Department, 4-11 alarm, Broadway and Gunnison, 12/24/94I took in this fire from home on 12//24/94. It was in a vacant auto dealership, probably 100×200 with a bowstring truss roof. Needless to say, they didn’t make a push inside as it was a done deal upon arrival. The site is now a parking lot for a large strip mall. Pictures were taken with a cheap camera that was all I could afford at the time.

I remember this fire as it was the same day that FF Lionel Hoffer died in the Line of duty in Milwaukee.

Dan, thanks for posting those shots from the 4-11 on Broadway. I attended that fire myself and there was one other classic Chicago engine company at the fire. Engine 89’s 1978, 2,000-GPM American LaFrance. Chicago purchased five of them in addition to six in 1972 which were equipped with the famous Chicago Aurora Borealis lights on the roof of the cabs. The 1978 models those, they had two revolving red lights on the roof instead.
