Libertyville Fire Department news

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

Libertyville police and firefighters responded around 4:45 p.m. Monday (6/4/18) to several 911 calls about a car floating in a large pond near US Highway 45 and Northwind Boulevard. The callers said the driver was still inside. Firefighters tried to put a lifejacket on the driver and pull him out, but a diver was sent in to rescue him when the car started to sink.
Fire officials said that at one point the car’s trunk opened, which caused the car to sink quickly, and straight down.

Though divers managed to get him out, he was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Box alarm fire in Long Grove, 3-1-18

The Countryside FPD with neighboring departments was sent to 4867 Pond View Court in Long Grove this morning (3/1/18) for a basement fire. Upon arrival companies made an interior attack but had to back out shortly thereafter as areas of the first floor were compromised and then collapsed. Although there was a hydrant in the cul-de-sac, 400′ of LDH was stretched to the end of the street where two portable tanks were setup for tanker operations. Libertyville Engine 462 drafted from the portable tanks supplying Mundelein Engine 432 in front of the house. Both Countryside engines, their tanker, and tower ladder were also in front of the house. Fire traveled from the basement to the second floor but was contained quickly. One firefighter was taken to an area hospital with a shoulder injury.

Barn fire in Mettawa, 1-9-18

Libertyville firefighters and surrounding departments responded to a barn fire at 14060 Old School Road in Mettawa Monday afternoon (1/9/18). Countryside Chief 4100 was the first to arrive and confirmed a working fire. Companies tapped into a hydrant across the street and were able to save the exposures, but the barn was destroyed. It was reportedly a four-stall barn and the horses were able to escape though some smaller animals  perished in the blaze. The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm for change of quarters and the full box assignment was filled out later.

Companies at the scene included two engines, a quint, an ambulance and battalion chief from Libertyville; engines from Countryside, Knollwood, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, and Wauconda; a Lincolnshire-Riverwoods squad; and chiefs from Countryside, Lake Forest, Mundelein, and Libertyville.

Knollwood Fire Department news (more)

From the cityoflakeforest.com:

On December 7, 2017, the City of Lake Forest and the Village of Libertyville presented a joint draft proposal for Fire, Emergency Medical and Fire Prevention Services to the Rockland Fire Protection District (RFPD) that will be considered by the Libertyville Village Board at its December 12, 2017 meeting.  Lake Forest and Libertyville believe the proposal is a comprehensive and cost-effective partnership, providing residents of the RFPD with the long-term benefits of full-time services from two professional fire departments, more efficient initial emergency response forces and more effective back-up support.

The proposal includes the employment opportunity for existing volunteer personnel to continue to service the community and to train with other members of the Lake Forest Fire Department, as well as possibly using, repurposing or selling existing fire apparatus, equipment and facilities, all benefiting RFPD taxpayers.

Lake Forest and Libertyville firefighters and paramedics have worked side by side with the dedicated volunteers of the RFPD for many years.  The City of Lake Forest and the Village of Libertyville have provided or are now providing emergency services to the District.

The communities initiated discussions in 2012 on improving efficiencies and the economic benefits associated with joining forces.   Conversations have continued, and earlier this year, the RFPD Board requested a proposal from both Libertyville and Lake Forest.  After thoughtful consideration, both municipalities concluded that by working together, a plan could be developed that focuses on high-quality, full-time services from their two professional fire departments providing: 1) enhanced emergency and fire response and 2) improved cost-effectiveness to all residents of the District.

The City of Lake Forest and the Village of Libertyville believe this proposal meets the important goals of enhancing services, reducing costs and respecting the values and traditions of the RFPD.
