This from Wayne Stuart:
The Calumet City Fire Department operated this 1937 American La France quad from 3/31/1937 until 1972. It was a Type 475 RDB, 750 GPM rotary gear pump with an 88-gallon tank. It carried serial # L-860.

Who knows how many youngsters that old ALF may inspire to be a firefighter or at least a lifelong interest in fire apparatus.

Kind of a sad ending, but I would agree that this is better than the junkyard. Just like with kittens, there aren’t enough homes for all the old fire engines.

Some would cringe at the idea of a bunch of kids climbing and jumping on that but it’s far better than scrapping it.

I took this photo about 6 years ago in a park at 153rd and Lincoln in Calumet City.
