Aurora Fire Department news (more)

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A surveillance video shows an Aurora Fire Department ambulance going through a red traffic light prior to a Tuesday morning crash in Naperville that left two paramedics and a Naperville woman injured.

It is not known if the ambulance had its lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash. A dense fog advisory was in effect when the collision occurred.

Security tape taken by the Mobil service station at the northeast corner of Aurora and Ogden avenues, viewed Tuesday by the Naperville Sun, caught the image of Aurora Fire Department Paramedic Unit 8 as it traveled west on Aurora Avenue and went through a red light before striking Toyota Camry. A similar videotape was made by Woody Buick GMC, directly across Ogden Avenue from the gas station.

The paramedic who was driving is a 22-year department veteran and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Naperville investigation.

The preliminary police investigation confirmed the ambulance was going west on Aurora Avenue and the Camry north on Ogden.

Aurora Fire Department news

Excerpts from NBCChicago.com:

Three people were injured in a crash between a car and an Aurora Fire Department ambulance early Tuesday in Naperville. Shortly before 3:30 a.m., the ambulance collided with a Toyota Camry.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find the ambulance on its side in the intersection. It was on its way back to the station at the time of the crash and there was no patient inside.

The Camry had pulled off the road into the parking lot by the time emergency crews arrived. The 52-year-old woman who was driving the Camry and the two Aurora Fire Department paramedics were all taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville.

3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 5-14-00

This from Eric Haak:

I thought I would share these vintage images from a 3-11 alarm on May 14, 2000.  The fire was at 71st and Wabash and the images were scanned from original negatives that I own.  The images were taken by a Sun-Times photographer but I do not have a name.  They were in very poor shape and I had to spend a lot of time editing out the scratches, however you can see that I did not get to all of them yet.  I’m sure there are some faces that many will identify, including a slightly younger Father Mulcrone.
