Gary Fire Department history

The Gary Fire Department operated this 1914 American La France Type 14-6 Chemical and Ladder apparatus. It carried ALF Serial #738. It had a 50 gallon chemical tank and a large assortment of ground ladders plus truck tools. It ran as Truck Co. No. 1 until 1927 when it was replaced by a Magirus 85′ rear mount aerial.

Gary Fire Department history

The Gary Fire Department operated this 1950 American La France pumper Serial #L-4034. It had a 1000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon tank. It also carried a 40Ft. and a 38 Ft.  ladder as well as a 24 Ft. and a 12 Ft roof ladder. It ran as Engine Company No. 7  in Miller for many years.

The Gary Fire Department operated this 1909 Seagrave horse drawn ladder truck. It was one of only two horse-drawn apparatus operated by the GFD. This apparatus carried Seagrave serial #3758. It ran as Truck Company #1 until 1916

The Gary Fire Department operated this 1909 Seagrave Serial # 3759. It was originally purchased for the police department as a paddy wagon. It was converted into a chemical engine and assigned to Engine Company 5 when Station 5 in Glen Park was opened in 1915.

The Gary Fire Department operated this 1962 Maxim “S” model pumper. It carried Maxim serial # 2308. It had a 1000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon tank. The engine companies of the era also carried a 35′ three-section ladder along with the standard 24′ and 14′ ladders. This apparatus was assigned to Engine Company 6.

The Gary Fire Department operated two 1942 American La France type 600 Series pumpers. This one was assigned originally to Engine Company 3 and in 1959 to Engine Company 9 upon opening of Station 9. It was replaced by a 1964 Maxim. It carried ALF Serial # L-1675. It had a 750-GPM pump and a 100-gallon water tank.
