This from Sam Borica:
Here are some photos I took of the large brush fire today, (4/9/14) in Grayslake. Happened near Rt 60 & Behm Lane. Numerous acres involved, multiple departments were called to scene and for change of quarters. Took an hour and a half to completely extinguish the fire and clear the scene. I also have a picture of Mundelein Ambulance 431 at Grayslake’s Station #3 change of quarters across the street.Sam Borcia

This from Sam Borica:
Here are some photos of the unincorporated Grayslake 3rd alarm brush fire that happened in the area of Chardon Rd & Imperial Court on 5/1/13, called for the 2nd alarm at around 2:35 PM and then third alarm on box #34-70 at around 3:05 PM, box was struck out at around 4:05 PM. I couldn’t get the best pictures because LC Sheriff had Chardon Rd blocked off. I also included a photo of Grayslake Fire Station #3 (Although its not the best picture). Photos by me (Sam Borcia).

Several area fire departments will receive FEMA funding in the form of grants.
Federal officials are delivering $1.33 million in grants to Illinois fire departments and municipalities to help them better prepare for fires and other emergencies.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin — a Democrat from Springfield — says the Assistance to Firefighters Grant funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That’s a division of the Department of Homeland Security.
Wednesday’s announcement includes grants for:
- Amboy Fire Department, $6,000
- Bridgeview, $125,000
- Crossville Volunteer Fire Department, $111,000
- Carpentersville Fire Department, $10,000
- Champaign Fire Department, $249,000
- Dixmoor Fire Department, $88,000
- Garden Homes Fire Protection Districts, $34,000
- Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, $90,000
- Metropolis Fire Department, $66,000
- Pleasantview, $72,000
- Riverdale Fire Department, $55,000
- Spring Bay Fire Protection District, $115,000
- Union Fire Protection District, $60,000
- Wauconda Fire District, $248,000
thanks Chris

This from Scott Peterson:
This was a Wauconda FPD Box alarm in the Lake Barrington Shores @ 612 Shoreline Rd on Tuesday morning Feb 19, 2013. This is a gated community. The dispatch was for smoke coming from the structure and a report of a person trapped. While enroute a medical alert alarm was also received indicating an activated smoke detector. Cos arrived, found smoke showing, pulled a line A very quick knock of the fire was made by the first-in Wauconda engine & a Lake Zurich engine that was also on-scene simulatneously on the auto-aid response. These crews knew of a person reported trapped and did an immediate search, quickly locating the victim. The victim was removed to a Nunda Rural ambulance that had been special called by the Wauconda Shift Commander while still enroute to the call, since the Nunda ambulance was very close to the call. Unfortunately, after arrival at the hospital, the victim was pronounced. The fire was held to the unit of origin with no extension to the other occupancies.I arrived just after the FD had found and removed the victim on the primary search and here are a few pics of what the scene was.Scott

Wauconda firefighters responded to a reported garage fire this afternoon at 26703 N. Main Street in an unincorporated area of their district. Upon arrival, units found a two-story house with heavy fire in the attached garage threatening the living space. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a 2nd Alarm bringing additional companies to the scene. Though the house has smoke damage throughout, only a small area along the garage wall was reportedly damaged by fire. Firefighters advanced two lines into the house to stop the fire from spreading. The fire was out within a half hour of the original alarm.
Mutual aid companies included Long Grove, Countryside, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, Nunda, Lake Zurich, Cary, and Mundelein.
Larry Shapiro went to the scene and arrived as the fire was extinguished. Nevertheless, he submitted a few images of the scene and the units that responded.
