House fire in Green Oaks, 3-24-16

Libertyville firefighters along with automatic-aid companies were sent to 1470 Greenbriar Drive in Green Oaks (Libertyville FPD) just after 1AM when a homeowner, awakened by a smoke alarm, noticed a van outside had caught fire and was spreading to the attached garage.

The first arriving engine reported flames through the roof of the garage and made an initial quick attack with their deck gun. After the tank water was drained, the engine was nursed by a tanker that arrived after them and a hand line went into operation. A shuttle was setup with successive tankers nursing the Libertyville tanker and in turn the engine in the driveway.

The alarm was elevated to a Box Alarm which brought several tankers (tenders) to the neighborhood that is without hydrants. Though the garage and contents were heavily damaged, the fire did not communicate into the house.

The box was struck out about an hour later and companies began to pickup.

Interdivisional requests from Division 1,2,4,5. There was a speical request for a brush truck from Lake Villa.
UCP 13 was also out there

This from Larry Shapiro:

Occupants that are currently renting the house were burning leaves this afternoon and the fire communicated to a tree sending embers onto the house. The wind caused the fire to spread rapidly. A 2nd Alarm was requested on arrival of Barrington & Countryside units followed quickly by an upgrade to a 4th Alarm for tenders only. The 5th Alarm was requested later and then Interdivisional Alarms for a Tender task Force from Divisions 2 and 5. The previous alarms were later filled out for the suppression companies which brought more personnel to the scene. Four counties were represented at this incident which included units from 6 MABAS Divisions.

The wind carried embers into the grass area behind the home igniting a prairie fire which spread to a large area near the electric transmission lines. This prompted a Special Alarm for brush fire assets.

In addition to the units listed above, there were engines from Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Rolling Meadows and Elgin.

Inverness house fire goes to 3 alarms for Palatine Rural FPD

This from Larry Shapiro:

Homeowners at 14 Carnoustie Lane in Inverness called the Palatine Rural FPD and reported fire in the attic of their house shortly before 5PM on Tuesday. The large home is located in an area without hydrants roughly 1/2 mile from the fire station. First arriving companies attempted an interior attack and were forced to retreat and change to a defensive strategy. Heavy fire took hold of the attic and self vented through the roof as the alarm was escalated for additional units and water tankers. Two Palatine Rural firefighters from the initial attack company were subsequently transported to an area hospital.

A tanker shuttle was initiated as Palatine Tower 85 was put to work with an elevated master stream. The temperature as companies arrived was 94 degrees with a heat index near 100 degrees. A 2nd alarm was struck for additional tankers and then a 3rd alarm was requested when all companies in the staging area had been depleted.

Lake Zurich 4th Alarm house fire 4-21-13

Shortly before 8PM on Sunday evening, the Lake Zurich Fire Department received a call reporting a fire at the house across the street. The chief and 1st engine arrived within minutes and reported a 2-1/2 story, wood frame house with heavy fire in the front at 21716 W. Glendale Road. Lake Zurich Engine 3 was the first engine and had water on the fire very quickly. They hit it with a deck gun and knocked down the majority of the fire which was on the exterior of the house consuming cedar shingle siding. As the first company was making their way into the house with a line, they received a report that a resident might still be inside.

The alarm was elevated to a 2nd Alarm which included water tenders since the fire was in an unincorporated subdivision without hydrants. All residents were quickly accounted for at a neighbor’s home. The balance of the fire was knocked within 20 minutes and companies began extensive overhaul.

There were two injuries which required hospital transport. One was a resident and the other was a neighbor who passed out on the lawn. A firefighter injured his arm but after being evaluated at the scene he signed a release. Prior to transporting the second patient, since the ambulances at the scene were committed either to patient care, rehab, or firefighting duties, the alarm was escalated to a 3rd Alarm for ambulances only plus change of quarters companies.

When the firefighter was injured and there was concern that he too would be transported, a 4th Alarm was requested bringing only the ambulances that were due.

There were many departments at the scene including: Lake Zurich, Lake Villa, Long Grove, Round Lake, Libertyville, Deerfield, Palatine Rural, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Fox Lake, Nunda Rural, Mundelein, Wauconda, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, the Quad 2 Command Unit, Countryside, Schaumburg, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Barrington, and Cary.
