The Libertyville Fire Department struck a 2nd Alarm for a house fire at 1121 Oak Spring Lane Monday evening (6/8/15) shortly after 8PM. First arriving companies had flames through the roof of a house undergoing renovations from a previous fire. The house is located at the end of a dead-end street with no hydrants. With the 2nd alarm, there were tenders from Grayslake, Wauconda, Countryside, Fox lake, lake Villa, Long Grove, Libertyville, Newport Township, and Antioch along with engines from Libertyville, Lake Bluff, Knollwood, Mundelein, Lake Forest, and Great Lakes. Squads on the scene were from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Gurney and the only truckwas from Libertyville.
They made quick work of knocking down the fire which was out when I arrived. Tim Olk arrived long before I did.

The Barrington Countryside FPD was called for a house fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington today (5/18/15) around 1PM. Arriving units found sections of the cedar shake roof on fire and requested a MABAS Box Alarm. As the wind was prevalent, the alarm was upgraded to a 2nd Alarm and then a 3rd Alarm as companies were withdrawn front the house for an exterior attack.
Several hand lines were used, some applying foam. Firefighters went back into the house after a section of the roof was burned off to chase hot spots and extinguish the balance of the fire.
There was a sizable fire pit smoldering in the backyard, up wind of the house.
Some of the units at the scene included: Barrington Countryside with two engines and two tenders; engines from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Hanover Park, West Dundee, Schaumburg, and Carpentersville; trucks from Hoffman Estates, McHenry Twp, Countryside, and Palatine; squads from Libertyville and Cary; ambulances from Buffalo Grove and Long Grove; tenders from Long Grove, McHenry Twp, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, Prospect Heights, Palatine Rural, East Dundee, Bartlett, Wauconda, and Rutland-Dundee; MABAS Air 5 and the MESS Canteen.
Several contributors were at the scene.

Here are some photos I took at Wadsworth’s 3RD Level Box yesterday . I was down the street with a friend when we saw the smoke. I didn’t have a radio on me to see what was going on. We drove down towards the smoke and saw the fire. Newport had just gotten on the scene with the first engine when I arrived. I got some photos of the apparatus and the house. There was a fire in the garage the previous night. Took too long to be a rekindle. This fire is now under investigation.

This from Larry Shapiro:
Shortly after 9PM on July 4th, firefighters in Long Grove and neighboring departments responded to a call for fire on the roof of a large house at 5421 Tall Oaks Drive in an unincorporated portion of the district. First arriving units found heavy fire along the peak of a three-story house and made a quick external attack before taking lines inside. After knocking down the bulk of the fire, they chased spot fires inside and along the peak as they had trouble accessing the affected area from the inside. The area was without hydrants. Tanker 55, a 3,000-gallon tanker, nursed the attack engine and a supply line was dropped over a the distance of a long block to the main road where two portable tanks were setup initiating a tanker shuttle to supply additional water.

Tim Olk submitted several images from a house fire (Saturday afternoon) at in Highland Park. This was the first significantly cold day in the area which more than likely contributed to two broken water mains during the defensive operation. To assist with additional water, a special call was made requesting tankers from Prospect Heights, Long Grove, and the Countryside FPD.
The fire reportedly started in the basement and extended to the roof.

Newport Township firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire this morning in the 35000 block of N. Mill Creek Road in Wadsworth. The house sits well off the road and backs up almost directly to I-94 just past the toll booth.
Arriving companies were unable to spot the fire until they made the long driveway off of Mill Creek Road. They found a large, two-story home with a fire in the upper level. Since the area is without hydrants, the alarm was upgraded immediately to a Box Alarm, then to a 2nd Alarm shortly thereafter. One engine and a 75′ quint made it up the driveway and a relay operation was initiated from the street. Three portable tanks were used on the road as two engines supplied 5″ lines to the quint and the engine in the driveway.
As the fire overhead grew, companies had to pull out and resort to a defensive operation. Several hand lines and an aerial pipe were put into operation. Due to the water needs and the route tenders had to take to refill and return, the alarm was upgraded to a 4th Alarm for additional tenders.
