Box alarm fire in Long Grove, 3-1-18

The Countryside FPD with neighboring departments was sent to 4867 Pond View Court in Long Grove this morning (3/1/18) for a basement fire. Upon arrival companies made an interior attack but had to back out shortly thereafter as areas of the first floor were compromised and then collapsed. Although there was a hydrant in the cul-de-sac, 400′ of LDH was stretched to the end of the street where two portable tanks were setup for tanker operations. Libertyville Engine 462 drafted from the portable tanks supplying Mundelein Engine 432 in front of the house. Both Countryside engines, their tanker, and tower ladder were also in front of the house. Fire traveled from the basement to the second floor but was contained quickly. One firefighter was taken to an area hospital with a shoulder injury.

2-Alarm house fire in Long Grove 9-16-16

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Long Grove FPD was dispatched with mutual aid companies to the area of Old McHenry Road and Cuba Road Friday night (9/16/16) just after 9:30PM for a reported house fire. The location is just blocks from the fire station and the Long Grove units were in the area within minutes of the call. They found a vacant house in disrepair off of Shagbark Lane with heavy fire.

The Code 3 dispatch was quickly upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire. Nine units were due on the initial dispatch including three tankers and another 12 units with five tenders were due on the Code 4 along with several chief officers.

Long Grove Squad 55 and Tanker 55 used 4,000 gallons of water which was quickly supplemented by another 3,200 gallons from the Wauconda tanker and 1,000 gallons from Lake Zurich Engine 4 as a water supply operation was implemented with a tanker shuttle.

Eventually a Box Alarm and then a 2nd Alarm for tenders only brought multiple additional resources to the scene.

House fire in Long Grove, 7-4-14

This from Larry Shapiro:

Shortly after 9PM on July 4th, firefighters in Long Grove and neighboring departments responded to a call for fire on the roof of a large house at 5421 Tall Oaks Drive in an unincorporated portion of the district. First arriving units found heavy fire along the peak of a three-story house and made a quick external attack before taking lines inside. After knocking down the bulk of the fire, they chased spot fires inside and along the peak as they had trouble accessing the affected area from the inside. The area was without hydrants. Tanker 55, a 3,000-gallon tanker, nursed the attack engine and a supply line was dropped over a the distance of a long block to the main road where two portable tanks were setup initiating a tanker shuttle to supply additional water.

Long Grove house fire 8-19-13

This from Larry Shapiro:

Residents called the Long Grove FD around 6:30 this morning reporting some type of explosion and fire in the garage area of their home at 3238 Victorian Lane. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 prior to the first units arriving on scene. They found all residents out of the home and heavy fire throughout the attached three-car garage and the bedroom windows above. The cedar roof shingles along that side had the roof involved as well. A quick blitz attack was initiated which then allowed companies to make an interior attack. The fire was contained to the area that was involved on arrival with slight extension further into the house.

Companies at the scene included engines from Long Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Arlington Heights, and Wheeling. Tankers from Long Grove, Countryside, Fox Lake, Prospect Heights, Barrington, and Fox Lake responded along with a Deerfield squad and Libertyville, Long Grove, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods ambulances.

Long Grove Engine 55 pulled into the driveway followed by Tanker 55 to supply up to 3,000 additional gallons of water before a supplemental water supply was established. Then Palatine Engine 82, the next engine to arrive, dropped a supply line down the length of the private road from a dry hydrant near Route 53. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engine 51 arrived next and established the water supply drafting from the pond.

Long Grove house fire 4-5-13

Long Grove FPD companies responded to a reported house fire just after 9PM at 4251 Route 83. Units arrived and reported a working fire. Mutual aid companies on the initial response included engines from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Lake Zurich, and Arlington Heights. Buffalo Grove responded with a 75′ quint, Prospect Heights sent an ambulance and a tanker, and an additional tanker came from the Palatine Rural FPD since the area is without hydrants.

Conditions inside the house, one of the few houses on Route 83 between Aptakisic and Hill Top Roads, were that of hoarders, making interior navigation difficult. The fire was largely on the exterior of the building with extension on both floors. There were no injuries. Additional companies requested to the scene as the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 (working fire) included an engine from Barrington and an Arlington Heights ambulance.
