The old Chicago Tribune printing plant known as the Freedom Center will soon be home to the new Bally’s Hotel and Casino, but before then it is a perfect training ground for the Chicago Fire Department.
Under the command of 1st District Chief Jim McDonough, firefighters train on everything from trying to find someone in a dark, smoke-filled room to rescuing a troubled window washer, elevator and machinery rescues and more.
The casino interior demo and overall construction is now the responsibility of Bally’s Chicago Community Builders Collective, a joint venture of nine separate companies. After reaching out to Bally’s and it’s collective of contractors in charge of the demo and the build, the opportunity to use the 6-story site for training was granted.

A young Chicago firefighter is stable after being injured in a crash while riding a motorcycle, but remains unconscious following his surgery.
Mason Maj’s loved ones have not left his bedside and are urgently asking the community to help them put together the moments before he was hurt. They are hoping someone can answer their call as they search for clarity after Mason was critically injured in a crash while riding a motorcycle on Friday morning. His family said Mason left his home early Friday morning to avoid traffic and was on his way to Franklin Park.
Chicago police said at around 6:30 a.m., Mason rear-ended a Nissan near Addison and Narrangansett in the Portage Park neighborhood, leaving him severely injured. The family hopes that neighbors or drivers who were in the area at the time of the crash saw something and can help fill in the details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Since the crash, Mason has been receiving care a Lutheran General Hospital.
Mason graduated from the fire academy in June and serves as a firefighter with Engine 93, following the footsteps of his father who is a captain with Engine 26.
A GoFundMe has been created to help with Mason’s medical expenses.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department responded to a reported fire in a townhouse at 2110 S Crambourne Way on Saturday night 8-9-24. The first arriving company reported heavy fire from two units and requested an upgrade to a Code 4 Working Fire and then a MABAS Box Alarm. Firefighters made quick work of knocking down the fire before all of the responding units arrived on the scene.
Here are some images taken well after the fire was extinguished.

Excerpts from patch.com:
The Orland Fire Protection District received multiple reports of a garage fire in the 8900 block of Oakdale Court Wednesday just before 5 p.m. On arrival, firefighters found heavy fire coming from the garage of a single-family home, with flames spreading into the second floor bedroom and attic.
Firefighters made a blitz attack to bring the blaze under control and extinguished a fence on fire between the garage and a neighboring house.
The residents escaped through a rear door.
A full still alarm was called for additional personnel and equipment at the scene and to backfill Orland stations. One firefighter was transported for heat exhaustion and treated at a local hospital before being released.
The home is currently uninhabitable and the fire is under investigation by the Orland Fire District Origin and Cause Team.
Other departments providing station coverage and manpower were Palos, Tinley Park, Palos Heights, Lemont, North Palos, Homer, and Mokena.

Saw Middleburg Heights’ American LaFrance tower. I believe it’s a 2006, they picked it up a few years ago from Antioch Illinois. I have no other info about it. Don’t see many of these around anymore.
