A Huntley firefighter sustained minor injuries after leaping out of the way of a semitrailer-truck Friday night while working a crash on the eastbound Jane Addams Tollway (I-90). The firefighter was transported to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley where he was treated and released.

Huntley Fire Protection District crews were assisting with a collision between a semitrailer truck and a van when a fire engine at the scene was hit by another semitrailer.

The second crash occurred at about 10 p.m. on I-90 just east of Route 47, in Kane County.

Illinois State Police are investigating and issued a citation for a Scott’s law violation to the driver who struck the fire engine.

The fire department had positioned the engine with its emergency lights flashing near the first crash to protect the area and had closed the right lane. The engine had moderate damage and was towed away for repairs.

The first crash occurred at about 9:40 p.m. when a van rear-ended a semitrailer truck. The van driver was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Neither truck driver was injured.

Crashes involving Illinois State Police squad cars are up this year, according to an ISP database. There have been 23 to date, 11 involving injuries, compared to 21 in 2023.

Fatal fire in the Fox River Countryside Fire Rescue District, 11-21-24

A person was killed in a house fire in unincorporated St. Charles Thursday night.

Officials with the Fox River Countryside Fire Rescue District said firefighters were dispatched at about 8 p.m. to a house fire at 39W545 Hemlock Drive.

The home was fully engulfed and neighbors on the scene alerted firefighters to a possible victim. Firefighters attempted to rescue the person, who was found in the back of the home.

The area did not have fire hydrants and water needed to be brought in.

Ten neighboring fire departments were called in to help put out this fire and another fire that occurred at about the same time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A Campton Hills woman died in a house fire Thursday night, according to a news release from the Campton Hills Police Department.

At approximately 8:03 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 21, the Campton Hills Police Department and Fox River and Countryside Fire Rescue District responded to reports of a residential fire near Overcup Court and Hemlock Drive in Campton Hills.

The first officer arrived on the scene within three minutes and found the residence in the 39W500 block of Overcup Court fully engulfed by fire.

The only occupant, a woman, was found on the rear deck of the residence deceased.

Hello

My name is Adrian and I would like to share my gratitude to you. I’m from a small town called Edgecumbe, which is in the North Island of New Zealand. I served 30 years as a Fire-Fighter in the Edgecumbe Volunteer Fire Brigade and retired holding the rank of Deputy Chief Fire Officer.
 
Whilst on holidays in the USA with my family we were visiting Chicago. While walking around the streets of Chicago, I/we were looking out for any Fire Houses. We came across Fire House – Engine 42. I was talking to one of the fire fighters and I asked him if there were any ceremonies with regards to 9/11. He said yes, that Engine 42 is the main place for that ceremony. He said that we were more than welcome to come along and watch.
 
The next day we arrived early and we were watching the setup for the ceremony. I was wearing my Edgecumbe Fire Brigade shirt that has our logo on the front and Fire Rescue on the back. I was also wearing a FDNY cap. 
 
A CFD Officer came up to me and said that I was more than welcome to join in and stand with the members of the Chicago Fire Department. I was blown away by this opportunity to stand side by side with them all. 
 
Then another CFD Officer came up to me and said stay here, don’t walk away. When he returned, he had Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt to meet me. I do not remember the CDF Officers name but he did send a group photo via this mobile number xxx-2449
 
I was absolutely overwhelmed and honored to have been part of this ceremony and meeting the Fire Commissioner.
 
I would be happy for you to share my Memorial Tribute Photo if you wish to do so.
