This from Mike Summa:
Hello,This is Blue Island Truck 2104. It started as a 1951 ALF 85-foot Quint. In 1980, this was sent to ALF again in University Park to have a new Century cab installed. It was the first unit to have a white top, which is a Blue Island hallmark now. This was in service until 1997, when a new E-One tower was purchased, a remarkable 46 years of continuous service and durability. Enjoy!–Mike Summa

Thanks for posting! I never knew that it was a converted 1951 ALF 700 series. I thought it was just another 1970’s era mid-mount. On the day it went out of service, I remember a FF got on the radio and said “goodbye to old 2104”. I thought it was odd for someone to get sentimental about a 1970’s mid-mount. Now I know the rest of the story.
Does anyone know if Blue Island had a second ALF 700 series mid-mount? One that was not refurbished? I thought they had one as a reserve in an old firehouse that was not staffed in the early 1970’s.

Good to know it is still in town, not in some junkyard.

It’s currently owned by the Blue Island Historical Society.
