A few shots from this mornings 2-11 on the 5400 block of south Kedzie. Still time was 0547 hrs. Engines 88 & 123, Tower Ladder 39 & Truck 52, Battalion 20 RIT with Truck 41. Battalion 19 reported fire in a 1-story ordinary, 100 x 50 commercial strip mall that appeared to have started in the liquor store. Both still engines operated in sector 1 on Kedzie along with the Tower and Squad 5a. Box time was 0557 hrs bringing Engines 65 & 34. Engine 34 was positioned at the entrance to the alley of 54th place in sector 3. Tower Ladder 54 was positioned in sector 4 on 54th Place. 2-11 time was 0614 hrs and companies went defensive at this time. Battalion 4 was Safety Chief and watched progress from the roof of the adjoining building to the north. Engine 65 also worked a line from this vantage point. When I arrived, sector 3 was heavily charged with smoke and a discarded hand line was visible through the rear of one of the businesses. The 2-11 was struck around 0720 hrs.

This from Eric Haak:
A few rig shots from the still & box alarm at the corner of Pershing Road and Wolcott on Wednesday. Still time – 1108 hrs, box time – 1110 hrs, box struck 1127 hrs. Engine 49 boxed the fire shortly after arrival when people were reportedly trapped on the second floor. All residents self evacuated and were accounted for. The majority of the fire was in the back porches and on the second floor. All four engines on this fire had lines off. 49 & 39 were on Pershing, 50 had a hydrant down the block on Honore and 65 on Wolcott. Just to give you an idea how quickly companies had things under control, it took only 12 minutes for me to arrive on scene and by then things were well in hand.

This from Larry Shapiro:
Two Lake County (Division 4) departments had small fires during the hot afternoon on Saturday.
The Long Grove Fire District responded to smoke in the building at 2316 Nichols Road in unincorporated Cook County at 3:30PM. Companies found a fire in a 1st floor storage room which was extinguished quickly. They then proceeded to check for extension throughout the 3-story apartment building. Mutual/auto-aid companies came from Lake Zurich, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Barrington, and the Palatine Rural FPD.
The Barrington Fire Department responded at 4:30PM for a fence on fire next to a building at 171 Walton Street. The fire communicated to the building and threatened a commercial building on the opposite side along with overhead power lines. The fire damaged the first building and was kept from the other building. Mutual aid companies came from East Dundee, Palatine Rural, Cary, and Fox River Grove.
