Lake and Park, a short block from the firehouse. I understand there was a fatality in this fire. Nothing to see when I arrived but got some nice rig shots. Fire was in the basement and well contained in short order.

Here is a photo of a X-Alsip, Illinois now in South Fork, Colorado but will soon be sold and may go to a shipyard in Florida. The Alsip photo is mine and the photo of it in Colorado was taken by Garry Kadzielawski.

This from Eric Haak:
A few rig shots from the still & box alarm at the corner of Pershing Road and Wolcott on Wednesday. Still time – 1108 hrs, box time – 1110 hrs, box struck 1127 hrs. Engine 49 boxed the fire shortly after arrival when people were reportedly trapped on the second floor. All residents self evacuated and were accounted for. The majority of the fire was in the back porches and on the second floor. All four engines on this fire had lines off. 49 & 39 were on Pershing, 50 had a hydrant down the block on Honore and 65 on Wolcott. Just to give you an idea how quickly companies had things under control, it took only 12 minutes for me to arrive on scene and by then things were well in hand.

This from Eric Haak:
At approximately 4:40 on Wednesday afternoon, fire broke out in a large “s” shaped courtyard apartment building at the corner of Lunt and Bell. It was boxed shortly after arrival and eventually was raised to a 2-11 alarm. Engine 102 was first on the scene and reported fire on 2. They are shown below getting ready to feed the Tower. Truck 25 had their aerial up in sector one and Tower Ladder 21 was set up on the corner of Lunt and Bell. The back porches were involved but were not visible due to the shape of the building. By the time I got there at 5:15, most of the fire was on the top floor and the roof which was difficult to see due to the large trees that line the block. Rehab Unit 572 was set up on Bell and is seen below.
Editor’s note: How many fire scenes will have an HME engine and an HME tower ladder together …

At approximately 1450hrs on Saturday, the Dolton Fire Department responded to a fire in a large storage shed on a vacant industrial property at 142nd & Cottage Grove. The photos in this gallery were taken about 1-hour into the incident. Companies had long lead-outs as working hydrants were scarce on this stretch of road. Calumet City Tower 309 and Lansing Tower 107 were both in use at the scene. Riverdale Engine 836 had a hydrant at the corner of 142nd and Cottage Grove and fed Burnham Engine 2016. South Holland Engine 669 was on Cottage Grove at the entrance to the complex with a hydrant as well. Also pictured is Phoenix Engine 1708 in staging which is the old Engine 72 of Chicago. The “72” is still clearly visible on the door. There was also a request for HAZMAT advisers to the scene. The incident was eventually raised to a 3rd alarm which actually occurred after I left the scene.
