Wilmette Fire Department open house

The Wilmette FD had an open house Saturday morning (5/18/19). This included several antique apparatus and an opportunity to showcase new Engine 27 for residents followed by ceremoniously pushing it into the station.

Engine 27 is a 2019 Pierce Dash CF PUC so 32569. It has a 1500-GPM pump, 750 gallons of water, and a foam cell which has either a 20 or 30-gallon capacity. This engine was outfitted with a 35-foot ground ladder and will run as Engine 26 if the tower ladder is out of service. It will go into service at Station 27, and the 2017 2013 E-ONE engine will become a reserve piece.

Elgin Fire Department’s 150th Anniversary

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

For Elgin Fire Assistant Fire Chief Robb Cagann, Saturday was a special way to celebrate the Elgin Fire Department’s 150th Anniversary.

The Fire Barn No. 5 Museum’s open house Saturday showcased the department’s history as part of the celebration of the day it began exactly 150 years earlier.

Cagann credited the museum board with building the collection housed in the early 1900s fire barn. The volunteer museum board takes care of the fire engines and all the memorabilia, he said.

Elgin Fire Department was established on September 16, 1867, and the all-volunteer force worked out of a building at 9 N. Spring St., according to a brochure the department created. The city’s first company, the Elgin Hook and Ladder Company, had a hose wagon and two horses to serve 5,441 residents, it stated.

Fire Station No. 5 was built in 1903 to 1904 at 533 St. Charles Street. By 1904, the fire department had 5 fully staffed fire barns with three hose wagons, two combination hose/chemical engines and horse-drawn engines, according to the museum. It was decommissioned in 1991, later becoming a fire museum, officials said. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, the brochure states.

From the villageofschaumburg.com:

Fire Department 50th Anniversary Open House

The Schaumburg Fire Department invites the public to attend its Open House to celebrate the department’s 50th anniversary.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at Fire Station 51, 950 W. Schaumburg Road.

The itinerary includes Presentation of the Colors by the department’s Honor Guard followed by a welcome from Fire Chief Dave Schumann. Speakers will include Mayor Al Larson and retired Captain Jim Naatz, who will serve as the keynote speaker. Refreshments will be available following the brief program.

Fire protection in Schaumburg was provided by the Roselle Fire Protection District in the early days. The Schaumburg Fire Department was created by village ordinance on February 20, 1966, and appointed volunteer firefighters that officially began serving the Schaumburg Fire Department on June 1, 1967.

Today, the Schaumburg Fire Department provides suppression and emergency medical services to a day-time population of 150,000. Responding from five fire stations, 120 shift personnel respond to more than 9,100 calls a year. The fire department is responsible for providing emergency response services including fire, ambulance, hazardous materials, underwater rescue and recovery, high angle, trench and confined space rescue; and education/fire prevention programs including school presentations, station tours, high rise drills, and Explorer Scout Post 333. For more information about the Schaumburg Fire Department, visit the village’s website at http://bit.ly/2fmxe8t.
