MVA in Vernon Hills, 6-6-19

This from Larry Shapiro:

Here are some images from a three-car crash on Milwaukee Avenue at Woodlands Parkway 6/6/19 in Vernon Hills. There were multiple occupants between the three cars but all signed releases at the scene. The accident was apparently caused when one driver pulled to the curb southbound as a Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD ambulance was heading north to a hospital with a patient from an unrelated incident. One car failed to stop and hit the first, and then a third car plowed into the second one.

Prospect Heights firefighters were dispatched to a one-car MVA Tuesday afternoon (6/4/19) in the express lanes of Palatine Road just west of Wolf Road. A new Cadillac SUV was precariously along the embankment after running through and getting stuck in a section of open curbing that was dug out for replacement. The driver was alone in the car and not complaining of injuries, but was unable to get out of the car. Firefighters assisted the occupant out of the car and was then evaluated by paramedics.

Tanker rollover with Hazmat in Des Plaines, 5-8-19

Des Plaines firefighters were called to Elmhurst Road (Route 83) on the bridge over I-90 this morning after a tanker overturned entrapping the driver. Firefighters extricated the driver who was transported to the hospital. The tanker, carrying ethanol, was ruptured in several places causing the product to leak onto the roadway. Hazmat techs and the Foam Task Force from O’Hare responded to the scene to mitigate the incident. After the leaks were plugged, the ARFF applied foam to the area and companies began the long wait for a private cleanup crew and another tanker so the chemical could be offloaded.

MVA with entrapment and medevac in Northbrook, 1-17-19 (more)

Excerpts from wgntv.com:

Frank Visconti and a friend were heading to the hospital last week for blood work. They were southbound on I-294 near Willow Road when just a few feet in front of them, they saw debris flying and traffic come to a halt. As he drove by the crash, he felt compelled to pull over and aid a woman who some thought was dead. The car driven by Kim Huguelet slammed into the back of the semi and trapped her inside.

“To see the vehicle and the condition it was in, I thought maybe it was going to be a fatality,” Visconti said. “But when she looked up at me, that was it.”

Visconti, a former a paid on-call firefighter in Knollwood, used his training from years ago.

“I just crawled into the vehicle and started pulling pieces of the dashboard off of her,” he said. “I observed her head had a really big cut and I just put pressure on her head and stopped the bleeding as much as I could.

Visconti continued to talk to Huguelet and tried to keep her calm and awake until the fire department.

Huguelet is recovering at Lutheran General Hospital and Visconti visits regularly, calls daily, and expects to throw a big party for her when she recovers.

Her family said she’s not out of the woods yet. She’s had a couple of surgeries. They are hopeful, but doctors are taking it day by day. They wanted to bring attention to Visconti ‘s heroic actions.

thanks Evan
