Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District learned in March that they earned an ISO Class 2 rating possible from the Insurance Services Organization (ISO). The department was last rated in 2012 when it received a 4 on the scale of 1 and 10. Its score of 89.5 out of a possible 105.5 points put the top rating sixth tenths of a point away.
ISO inspected the department’s facilities and equipment last June and issued the improved Class 2 rating. ISO rates 42,000 departments across the country with 329 getting a 1 and 1,500 receiving a 2.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods District is adding personnel to increase staffing by one person per shift and budgeting for more in the future.
On a more long term basis, the main fire station needs major repairs making a new building a possibility. The department is working with two outside consulting firms to determine if a new station is more economically feasible. Part of that study using three years of data is moving the main station farther south on Milwaukee Avenue to both improve response times and realize a financial benefit with a new building rather than a renovated one.
In addition to Lincolnshire and Riverwoods, the district also serves parts of Vernon Hills, Mettawa, and unincorporated areas of Lake County including Prairie View.

Des Plaines firefighters were called to Elmhurst Road (Route 83) on the bridge over I-90 this morning after a tanker overturned entrapping the driver. Firefighters extricated the driver who was transported to the hospital. The tanker, carrying ethanol, was ruptured in several places causing the product to leak onto the roadway. Hazmat techs and the Foam Task Force from O’Hare responded to the scene to mitigate the incident. After the leaks were plugged, the ARFF applied foam to the area and companies began the long wait for a private cleanup crew and another tanker so the chemical could be offloaded.
