Des Plaines firefighters were called to Elmhurst Road (Route 83) on the bridge over I-90 this morning after a tanker overturned entrapping the driver. Firefighters extricated the driver who was transported to the hospital. The tanker, carrying ethanol, was ruptured in several places causing the product to leak onto the roadway. Hazmat techs and the Foam Task Force from O’Hare responded to the scene to mitigate the incident. After the leaks were plugged, the ARFF applied foam to the area and companies began the long wait for a private cleanup crew and another tanker so the chemical could be offloaded.

This from Martin Nowak:
Around 1:20 P.M. Tuesday (2/23/2016) Roberts Park was dispatched for a truck rolled onto it’s side on the I-294 SB ramp right outside of Justice, IL. I was able to get these photos from a distance. Ambulance 32 and Engine 32 (using E3R) were on scene along with Justice Police and State Police.

This from Larry Shapiro:
There were no injuries after a tractor-trailer rolled over on the infamous ramp at the northern end of IL Route 53 toward WB Lake Cook Road. Long Grove firefighters had to force entry into the container when the driver was unsure of the cargo.

This from Larry Shapiro:
Long Grove FPD units with mutual aid companies from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, and Arlington Heights were dispatched to a tractor-trailer rollover with possible entrapment on the NB I-53 offramp to EB Lake Cook Road around 2:40 this afternoon (3/18/15). Buffalo Grover Tower 25 was the first unit on-scene and confirmed that two occupants were trapped inside the truck that was on it’s roof. He requested a 2nd ambulance and a heavy-wrecker with airbags to assist with the rescue.
Two separate extrications were going … with Long Grove working to free the passenger while Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights attended to the driver. There was talk of requesting a helicopter due to what was anticipated to be a prolonged extrication, but there was no need. The passenger was freed first and the driver shortly thereafter. Arlington Heights Ambulance 4 and Long Grove Ambulance 55 transported to Lutheran General and Condell respectively.
Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 was requested as a third squad but was released as they arrived on the scene.
Here are a few images from the scene with a full gallery at shapirophotography.net. I will also have a video of the extrication, plus images and video of the recovery by Hillside Towing.

This from Larry Shapiro:
Long Grove firefighters were called to the scene of a tractor-trailer rollover on the ramp from northbound I53 to westbound Lake Cook Road early this afternoon. This is the site of many truck accidents annually. Arriving with Long Grove companies was Buffalo Grove Tower 25. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated.
After the driver was transported to the hospital, fire units stood by for a towing and recovery company tasked with uprighting and removing the truck and trailer.

Elmhurst firefighters responded this morning to a single vehicle MVA on the northbound RT 83 ramp to eastbound I290. They arrived to find a tractor-trailer that had rolled onto one side trapping the driver inside the cab. When the truck rolled, the trailer struck a light pole which buckled in the middle spilling part of the load of plastic pellets. Elmhurst companies responded with two medic units, a battalion chief, an engine, a tower ladder and the heavy rescue unit. The extrication took over 45 minutes and the incident commander requested a medivac to transport the patient. Lifestar Chicago, formerly Loyola Lifestar, transported the patient after the extrication was completed.
Larry Shapiro was in the area and submitted several images from the scene.

After the patient was removed and transported to the hospital, the damage to the truck can be seen both at the trailer which has split open spilling debris into the grass and the tractor that was cut apart to rescue the driver. Larry Shapiro photo
