Townhouse fire in Zion, 5-2-16

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Zion firefighters arrived in the 2100 block of Hebron Avenue about 8 a.m. (Monday) and found flames blowing through a first-floor window, Zion Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Troy said.

They extinguished the blaze and found two kittens on the second floor during a search of the home.

“They were the tiniest little kittens, they must have been born recently,” he said.

Neighbors told firefighters nobody lived in the home, which will need to be completely rehabbed, Troy said. Adjacent units remained inhabitable, and the owner was on the scene talking to residents.

Tiffany Boose, 27, said a neighbor alerted her to the fire two units away.

“It was minor smoke at first, but by the time I got out of my home, it was thick black smoke and flames out the windows,” Boose said. “Once the firefighters made it here, they contained it very quickly.”

Nobody was injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Troy said.

New apparatus for Wheeling

This from Larry Shapiro:

Village officials and residents attending the May board meeting in Wheeling were shown the new engine and tower ladder that were purchased from Rosenbauer. Additionally, a new graphics package was displayed for the police cars. On a historic note, this is the third tower ladder for the Wheeling Fire Department, and the first rear-mount in 48 years.
