T14 was a bit of a lemon from the start, they’ve been dealing with a lot of problems since they took delivery. Possibly a consideration in it’s early reserve status?
Another factor is that they do have an agreement with Northbfield concerning the old truck. It will be housed at NFLD Sta 29 and will be staffed similiarly to how T29 is now by NFLD. It really only goes auto and mutual aid fires, and is manned by the jump company. I’m pretty sure their squad is first due on everything in their town. In the future GLVW T14 will respond to most, if not all, fires in NFLD at the 1st due truck. GLVW will have access to old T14 if the front line T14 is O.O.S. If there are any GLFD or NFLD guys out there can you expound?

The truck was replaced due to age and mechanical issues and will be used in an equipment sharing agreement with Northfield. The intergovernmental agreement can be found online somewhere. The old will be kept as a reserve so there is always an aerial device available for calls. Age means nothing when your always running the rig.

Funny how everyone is wondering why glenview
Replaced their truck after it being only 10 years old.
But no seems to notice that schaumburg did the
Same with truck 52 and engines 53, 51, and 52. Not to
Mention they are going to replace truck truck 53
For which at that point will be at most 12 years old.
So please there is nothing wrong with keepong
An updated fleet as well as more than capable
Reaerves.

Matthew G that makes alot of sense that they would get an early replacement for Truck 14 so as to have a good spare rig for the future. Yes I also agree that Glenview’s current fleet is one of the best looking fleets in the Chicago Area and their Engines are very Impressive as well as Truck/Quint 14. One thing that I have noticed is that Truck 14 actually borders on Northbrook Truck/Quint 12’s district as they are both located near the borders of their communities (approximately Willow road more or less) so I would imagine that on still alarms near the border would most likely get both the Glenview and the Northbrook Trucks/Quints responding as they are located in the nearest stations to that area closest to the border.

Just a thought, but I wonder Glenview replacing Truck 14 now at the 10 year point so they have a reliable reserve truck for the future? I know they don’t have a reserve truck as it is and I’ve often seen the old Engine 8 there used as reserve when the current truck goes OOS.

As for outside funding, I remember hearing that Northfield wanted to possibly share the truck with Glenview. Don’t know if that ever panned out but maybe they helped with the bill in exchange for auto aid.

Glenview has probably the nicest looking rigs around.

secondary question about the status of the older Truck 14. are you keeping it?? i know of a certain south suburban department that would love to have one. 🙂

Apparently Glenview is getting the money from somewhere as Chris S points out Truck 14’s new rig is replacing a Truck that is only 10 years old and most other suburbs wait until their rigs are at least 12 to 15 years old and sometimes older before replacing their Trucks and Engines.

Chris…just because it’s not old doesn’t mean it’s nice. We have a 7 year old engine that’s a piece of SHIT and a 22 year old one that pumps like a charm.
And, in addition to what Josh said, some departments keep backboards in there.

The compartment behind the cab is for the backstep FF’s hand tools including irons and pike poles.

Are they going to keep the former Truck 14 for a reserve?

Can someone tell me what that compartment is between the cab & pump panel, very thin, i’m curious. The now former T14 was not that old, why buy new already, seems like spending much just to spend it.
