Area apparatus updates

Chicago – 2 Oshkosh 4500 crash rigs with 65-ft high-reach extendable turrets have been ordered for O’Hare Airport. They will be the first 4500 rigs for the city.

Cicero – Will be placing an order with Pierce for a PUC pumper with a short wheelbase, i’m still awaiting all the specifications for the chassis.

Lisle Woodridge FPD – Their new Pierce PUC engine is awaiting delivery. That is a Pierce Arrow XT PUC pumper 1500/750. This rig will become Engine 521 down south, the current 521 will become the new 551 at Station 5. DuComm will be changing their numbers in the near future also.

Airport equipment whether it is fire trucks or snow plows comes out of the ticket fees that are collected on every passenger that flies in or out of Chicago. The FAA banks the money and then you tell them what you are purchasing and if they go along with the purchase, they release the funds. Since the money is intended for airport purchases, they control the purse strings.

Josh the city didn’t order towers they are just writing the specs. And Mike the rigs at District 3 are all FAA money. No city money is used.

The City can order new rigs for O’hare but we are still driving around ambulances with doors and tires falling off. Use that federal money for new ambulances !!!

No, i dont have any info on Addison. They sure are due though for a new one. Also, The City has 6 tower ladders and 2 foam pumpers for O’Hare in their new 2013 Proper.

Josh,

Addison was having discussions about ordering a new engine at their board meeting last wednesday night. I also don’t see the old 1990 Pierce Arrow engine or the tower for sale anymore on BP apparatus. Have any connections to find out what they’re buying and if the old ones sold?
