New Engine for University Park (more)

This from Erik Hajkowicz:

You posted in production photos of a University Park aerial. It’s actually the second engine that’s coming. It’s expected to be completed in January.
The first engine was delivered on 10/28. Here’s a couple pictures. It still needs a Federal Signal lighting package, graphics removed and added, and radios installed. It’s expected to be in-service as Engine 78 in about a month.

Illinois fire chief moves to Green Bay

An article in the Greenbaypressgazette.com introduces former Bolingbrook Fire Chief David Litton as the new fire chief for the Green Bay Fire Department.

A former fire chief in suburban Chicago is headed to Green Bay to take the helm of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

David Litton, who served most recently in Bolingbrook, Ill., was chosen from among four finalists to become fire chief after a nationwide search that attracted more than 30 applicants.

Litton, 50, said Friday he is excited to be joining the Green Bay fire department, which he said has a rich history and a talented roster of employees.

“I’m absolutely confident that they’re great people, and I’m looking forward to working with all of them,” he said.

Litton was fire chief in Bolingbrook for five years before the community’s elected leaders this spring named their police chief to oversee both police and fire — a consolidation that Green Bay officials briefly considered last year.

Before Bolingbrook, Litton was fire chief for 13 years in another Chicago suburb, University Park, Ill., where he also served for three years as both fire chief and village manager.

Litton’s salary will be $102,574 a year — the top of the city’s range for the position.

The entire article can be found HERE.

thanks Chris

University Park Fire Department is added

University Park Fire Department station

In MABAS Division 27, the University Park Fire Department has been added to the site. This department has almost completed a change to black over red apparatus throughout the fleet. Previously, the rigs were black over white over lime green which was the color scheme used by the department under its’ former name. Prior to 1984, the village and subsequently the fire department was call Park Forest South. As a means to achieve autonomy, the village became University Park in 1984 and the fire department, being a municipal department, changed as well. A well documented department history is available on the fire department website HERE.

Recently, the department received a new E-ONE tower ladder. They traded three older pieces to the dealer; a Hendrickson/American/LTI tower ladder and two Hendrickson/FMC engines.

University Park has a mixture of E-ONE and American LaFrance apparatus in addition to a Spartan/FMC/RPI/Pierce engine that formerly belonged to Beecher, IL. Both of the department’s ambulances are Type I units from Medtec on IHC chassis.
