Oak Forest Fire Department decalThe Oak Forest Fire Department in MABAS Division 24 has been added to  the site. Oak Forest has two fire stations with a 5.6 square mile district. The have 28 full-time and 31 paid-on-call personnel. Their fire suppression apparatus is mainly Pierce, but they also have an HME/Luverne engine. Rigs are pained black over red with the exception of two ambulances which are white. The newest ambulance, from Lifeline, is black over red to match the trucks.

Along with the station and apparatus photos, Karl Klotz provided closeup images of company decals from three of the rigs.

Carol Stream Fire District patch

In Dupage County (Division 12), the Carol Stream Fire District has three stations. They staff one engine company, one two-piece squad company, one tower ladder, three ambulances, plus a battalion chief. Their apparatus consists of two E-ONE engines, an E-ONE tower ladder, an Alexis engine, plus an Alexis heavy rescue. All of the ambulances are from Life Line on various IHC chassis.

The headquarters station has four drive-through bays, the administrative offices, and a complete training facility which includes a burn tower. This station staffs a battalion car, an ambulance, and a tower ladder quint. It is home to a spare ambulance, an OEM Mobile Command Unit, a spare engine, and two antiques in addition to FPB and other staff vehicles.

The Carol Stream Fire District web site has a nice history of the department which tells the story of the Keeneyville Fire Protection District and the Carol Stream Company. The fire apparatus for many years was painted black over yellow until 1996 when the yellow was changed to red.

At Station 3 which is located at 1045 Lies Road, Carol Stream runs a two-piece squad company. These units always respond together. The first piece of the company is the squad 235, a 2006 Spartan Gladiator Classic/Alexis 1500/750 pumper squad. The second piece is rescue 235, their brand new 2010 Spartan Metro Star Alexis HDR. The ‘squad’ has a complete complement of hydraulic rescue tools and the ‘rescue’ has supplemental equipment, and air cascade system, and is more of a specialty unit with extensive TRT materials and supplies.

Lisle Woodridge Fire Station 2

Division 16 encompasses only three fire departments but it represents roughly 100 square miles of area and includes 19 fire stations. The departments are Downers Grove, Lisle Woodridge, and Naperville. Previously, Downers Grove and recently Naperville have been added to the site with their combined 14 stations. As of today, the five stations of the Lisle Woodridge Fire District are on the site as well.

MABAS Division 16 Special Operations Unit

Three of the Lisle Woodridge stations are in the Village of Lisle and two are in the Village of Woodridge. They staff four engines, two trucks, a battalion chief and four medic units. One of the medic units is only staffed for 12 hours a day. Neither of their truck companies (one ladder and one platform) carries water or has a pump. Lisle Woodridge used to maintain a suppression fleet that was 100% E-ONE and a medic fleet of Freightliner/Life Line ambulances. Today, though several E-ONE units remain in the fleet, they are being phased out by Pierce units. Currently both trucks and two of the engines are Pierce. The medic units are still from Life Line although the Freightliner FL60 chassis are being replaced with IHC 4300 chassis.

Lisle Woodridge 1984 Spartan Gladiator EONE rescue unit

This unit which has no official assigned duties was one of the first super-command-cab units built by Spartan back in 1984. Spartan introduced these enormous cabs to the fire service and the first few units were built for suburban Chicago departments including this EONE rescue, a Frontline rescue for North Palos, and an FMC pumper for Fox Lake. The square cab design was not popular and made way for a contoured cab after a short period of time.
