Excerpts from the journal-topics.com:
Firefighters from four area departments responded to a house fire on Des Plaines’ south side at approximately noon 5/18/18. First arriving crews reported light smoke showing from the single-family residence at 2032 Welwyn Ave. just east of Des Plaines River Road. The response was quickly upgraded to a Code 4 bringing in Firefighters from Park Ridge, Rosemont, and North Maine.
According to Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax, the fire started in a back room and spread to the attic. Someone from the home called 911 to report the fire. A cause was not immediately known. The fire was out by approximately 12:30 p.m.

Des Plaines firefighters were called to 539 Westmere Road around 12:20PM on Friday (1/26/18) for reports of fire in an attached garage. The initial call was followed by multiple 9-1-1 calls. Engine 63 arrived first and reported heavy fire from the attached garage that spread into the second floor of the split-level house. Strong winds blew smoke across the street obscuring visibility on the street.
The fire was too intense to make entry so an exterior line was used with foam to make an initial attack and Tower Ladder 63 was setup to the roof for ventilation. Four lines were used and the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes. All three Des Plaines engines, both towers, the three ambulances, plus the battalion chief and 6100 were at the scene. Additional companies were Mount Prospect Engine 12, Tower 13, and Battalion 3, plus Elk Grove Township Ambulance 11.

This from the Des Plaines Patch:
A fire that erupted in a garage attached to a house early Saturday morning displaced the two Des Plaines residents who live there. The two occupants and their family cat, which was rescued by firefighters from the basement of the house, received housing assistance from the city’s emergency management agency, according to a report from the Des Plaines Fire Department, because the house was uninhabitable following the fire.
The Des Plaines Fire Department responded to the fire report at 256 Kathleen Drive at 2:02 a.m. on Dec. 8, according to the report, arrived on the scene at 2:07 a.m. and the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of their arrival on the scene.
The residents heard a noise in the garage, the fire department stated, and when one of the residents opened the door from the living space to the garage, suffered a slight burn to one hand and found the fire. They exited the house and called 9-1-1, according to the report.
The resident who was burned was evaluated by paramedics, the fire department stated, and released on the scene with no treatment needed.
Firefighters rescued the family cat from the basement, according to the report, and gave it oxygen using a mask designed for pets.
