Chicago working fire, 12-25-13

This from Eric Haak:

Christmas morning was a busy one for fire companies in Chicago’s 18th Battalion as they battled 2 still & box alarm fires within hours of each other.  The first was in the 6900 block of South Throop and occurred at about 0730 hrs.  The second occurred less than a mile from the first, on the 6500 block of South Marshfield.  The second fire was dispatched at 1010 hrs.  I arrived about 25 minutes in and smoke was still pouring fairly heavily from the roof.  The 18th Battalion Chief boxed this fire shortly after arrival, reporting a fire in the basement with fire on the first and moving to the second.  The building was a 25 x 60, occupied 2-flat.  4 lines were used, all from Engine 116 which was the only engine flowing water.  The box was struck at 1105 hrs.  10 residents were displaced by this incident.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire 8-21-13

This from Drew Gresik:

Took in the Still and Box at 2324 S. California. Fire was in a vacant 2.5-story frame, ops went defensive around the time these photos were taken. Tower 5 was moved into Sector 1 and Squad 1’s Snorkel was working with a master stream in Sector 2. Fire appeared to be in the attic/second floor. I didn’t see any flames but there was a lot of smoke. Here’s a few shots.

Down memory lane …

Another submission from Steve Redick:

This time we will have a suburban installment…

This was a box or 2nd alarm in the old Battalion 7 (Now division 20) … Maywood or Bellwood … not sure which. Some action photos … maybe someone will recognize some of the members in the photos. I always enjoyed the rigs, and always liked the ALF water chiefs, but I think they had lots of problems with the waterways.

Also a coupla shots from a fire in Glenview … a vacant supermarket. The Snorkel is the Glenbrook Snorkel before the rebuild.

Both sets were taken in the 80’s …

Robbins house fire 6-23-13 (rekindle)

This from Eric Haak:

The Robbins Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 3702 W. 139th Street Sunday afternoon.  Robbins units arrived on scene at 1308hrs and confirmed a working fire in an old 2-story frame at the back of a bar’s property.  Command requested a MABAS 22 Full Still on Box #2909.  Companies went defensive from the start due to the dilapidated condition of the building and a special call was put in for Crestwood’s Truck and a MABAS Canteen.  At approximately 1700hrs, companies were called back for a rekindle.  Units on scene were Robbins Tower Ladder 4, Robbins Engines 2913 and 2943 and Garden Homes Engine 2543.  Midlothian Engine 2723 was brought in to help clean up hot spots from the opposite side of Robbins’ Tower Ladder.

Riverside Box Alarm 6-20-13

This from Drew Gresik:

Here are a couple of photos from Riverside’s Box Alarm at 73 Northgate Road. Fire was in the basement upon arrival, with heavy smoke pushing from the chimney. Command had Engine 1621 lead a line into the home to knock the fire while Truck 1629 had the roof for ventilation. Fire was knocked in about 20 minutes. No shots of flames at this fire, but some cool shots of the smoke patterns before crews made entry. Attached are photos of several rigs and the structure. Forest View is currently using the Darien-Woodridge reserve engine that says “Southwest United Fire Districts” since both of their rigs are out of service with water damage to the electrical systems after that record flood a month or so ago. LaGrange has re-numbered their old Pierce and still runs it on M/A calls.
