As seen around … Chicago
Apr 10
This from Steve Redick:
I had a great opportunity to attend a media event held by the Chicago FD Tuesday. All of the not yet in service 2-piece squad companies (1,2,5,7) were brought to Northerly Island (Many will remember this as Meigs Field) for an unveiling and photo shoot. A total of 8 units altogether were positioned for a once in a generation group photo with views of the skyline in the background. After the group shot we had the chance to shoot each individual rig as well. The lone lime green/yellow units are assigned to Squad 7 at O’Hare Field. I made several panorama images which are comprised of 6 or 7 large resolution shots. When combined they yield a large highly detailed image. The small versions I am sending do not truly showcase these images … to see a good full size view check out my website:

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Three people were taken to area hospitals, one of them seriously injured, following a fire in one apartment in a four-plus-one style apartment building in the 6900 block of North Sheridan Road.
Two people were taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, one of them in serious-to-critical condition and one in fair-to-serious condition, and a third person was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in fair-to-serious condition.
The three were injured in a fire that was confined to one apartment on the fourth floor of the building.

Chicago Fire Department Still & Box Alarm with an EMS Plan 1 6900 N Sheridan Rd (fatal)
This from Eric Haak:
Here are some images from a Still & Box Alarm in Chicago that came in shortly after 4:00 pm on Thursday (7/2). The structure was on the 500 block of South Millard and was a vacant “Red X” building. Battalion 13 reported he had a large volume of smoke coming from the second floor and was concerned about communication to the “D” side exposure which was a 3-story vacant. My images are from about 45 minutes in. Engine 38 was also pumping at Central Park and Congress and Tower Ladder 14 was working in sector “C”.
This from Dan Shevlin:
The Fire Alarm Office received one call from a cell phone reporting a building on fire at 33rd Str & Keeler. A still was sent to this location. Eng99 found nothing. As it turns out the Cicero Fire Department was receiving the rest of the calls for 33rd Str & Kostner for a trucking company on fire. Cicero Fire Dispatch contacted us on IFERN & the location was corrected.
Chicago had a Still & Box Alarm fire this morning at 3235 S. Kostner. Fire was through the roof and involved a corrugated one-story warehouse at a trucking company.
Here are some images from Gordon J. Nord, Jr. and Josh Boyajian.
This from Drew Gresik:
Hey guys,Took in this job at 2450 S Central Park Ave. We saw the header from Roosevelt and Kedzie and arrived just after the Still companies. Fire was in an “E” shaped, 3-story apartment building. It appeared that the fire was in the cockloft above the 3rd floor, and it was knocked pretty good by the time the 2-11 companies staged. The fire was then rekindled and Commissioner Santiago requested the 3-11. Here are a couple shots I got, including one of the rescues, Squad 1A working in Sector 1, and Truck 32’s guys climbing the main to the roof.
