This from Eric Haak from the 2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 9-11-22
Here are some images from Sunday mornings 2-11 in Chicago. There was a deep-seated fire in the basement of the 50×100 auto parts store. Even though the building was 200 feet south of Engine 49’s house, the heavy fire load in the basement prompted a defensive attack early on.

3/21/2020- Just after midnight, the 15th Battalion landed at 38th and Ashland (3752 s Ashland) and reported he had a working structure fire. After nearly 20 minutes, he requested a Still & Box as he pulled all members out to go to defensive operations. A68 transported one member in serious condition to the hospital after an incident inside the fire building. Three 2.5″ lines were led out and three aerial master streams were also utilized. TL39, AT8, and Sq1’s Snorkel provided the aerial master streams. A 2-11 was eventually requested by 2-2-4. Most of the 2-11 companies were not utilized. Also of note, this was the first fire in which AT8’s brand new rig utilized its pre-piped waterway.

Chicago Engine 49 and Truck 33 arrived to find heavy fire from the roof of a 2 sty frame @ 4431 S Wood. Tower 39, the second truck, arrived and requested a Box due to the amount of smoke and fire showing. Companies lead out 4 lines and Engine 49 utilized their deck gun to knock the fire. This from Steve Redick:
I left the “3 bagger” to take in this job. Engine 49 from a change asked for a box right away after they arrived. The building was undergoing some renovation as indicated by the scaffolding so a defensive stance was taken initially. Squad 1 wiggled the new rig into a tight spot. Not much to really see but a changing smoke condition based on the prevailing winds. I can’t think of the last time I left one job to take in another (except for Detroit). All the photos and video from the two fires can be seen here:
