This from Eric Haak:
I thought I would share these vintage images from a 3-11 alarm on May 14, 2000. The fire was at 71st and Wabash and the images were scanned from original negatives that I own. The images were taken by a Sun-Times photographer but I do not have a name. They were in very poor shape and I had to spend a lot of time editing out the scratches, however you can see that I did not get to all of them yet. I’m sure there are some faces that many will identify, including a slightly younger Father Mulcrone.

I looked up a little more information on this incident which was on a weekend like mike mc had guessed. Came in around 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon. A 51-year old woman survived a jump from the third floor. 3 FF’s treated for smoke inhalation and exhaustion and 1 transported with an injured leg. It was a very warm day for mid-May with a high temperature at O’Hare of 86.

The Seagrave that Truck 20 was using must have been near the end of it’s service. 20 years old? Impressive use of ground ladders. I am assuming that ladder rescues were made. Must have been a weekend, Joyce in a civilian shirt. Thanks for posting.

The classic gear looks great, thanks for sharing these pics, I wouldn’t believe it’s almost 17 yrs ago now.

Nice work, what finally made CFD switch from the 3/4 Boots to the Bunker Gear?
