Winfield Fire Protection District news

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:

A former Winfield Fire Protection District administrator is free on $10,000 bail while facing felony charges of forgery and official misconduct.

According to the indictments released Wednesday morning, former Winfield Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Lewis, 44, is charged with two felony counts of forgery and two felony counts of official misconduct. On Feb. 5, Lewis presented Chief Phillip DeMenza with a false Triton College diploma dated May 1995.

The official misconduct charges stem from the forgery allegations.  DeMenza said Lewis resigned from the district in March.

Fire district attorney Bernie Weiler declined to address specifically why Lewis would be presenting a 19-year-old diploma to the chief but said there are often promotional or participatory opportunities that arise within the district that call for documentation of one form or another.

Lewis, a nearly 17-year veteran of the department, was charged June 30, but prosecutors requested the case be impounded and the indictment sealed until Lewis turned himself in on a $10,000 arrest warrant, which he did Tuesday.

If convicted, Lewis faces two to five years in prison. His next court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 12 before Judge Brian Telander.

House fire in Spring Grove, 7-17-16

This from Jeff Rudolph:

07/17/16
Lightning from Sunday morning’s storm struck a house on Rudolph Ct. in Spring Grove. Crews where able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire, holding the response to a full still. The area has no hydrants so tenders nursed into Spring Grove’s engine. Jeff Rudolph

As seen around … Berwyn

This from Jeff Braun Jr. COUNTY-WIDE FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY:

I was driving past Widaman Sign Co. in Berwyn, and noticed a mid 90’s E-One pumper parked in the side parking lot. After closer investigation, apparently this unit is being refurbished at Widaman Sign Co., I’m not sure if the work was already done, but the apparatus is labeled “Brownell and Sons Motorsports” with no other fire dept. insignias. I’m hoping that one of the many contributers of Chicago Area Fire could find an answer as to what department or who this apparatus belongs to and what its current use is. Thanks!
