Fatal crash in Fox Lake

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

The driver of a pickup truck was dead and six people injured in Fox Lake after the pickup crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting several motorcycles Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened about 3:10 p.m. on State Park Road about a quarter-mile north of U.S. Hwy. 12, said Fox Lake police Chief Russell Laine. The driver of a pickup that hit several motorcycles on Grass Lake died after the crash. Six people were injured and taken to either Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, or Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.

The truck was headed south on State Park Road as a group of motorcycles was heading north, and the pickup veered into northbound traffic. The pickup hit at least two motorcycles, apparently causing another driver with a passenger to lay down his bike to try to avoid a collision.

Multiple crashes in Naperville

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Two people were killed and at least six others were injured in three traffic crashes that occurred with 16 hours of one another Monday (7/11/16) in Naperville and an adjacent, unincorporated area of DuPage County.

A spokeswoman for the DuPage County coroner’s office said investigators as of Tuesday had been unable to make a positive identification of the remains of a motorist who was killed when a van slammed into a tree early Monday morning on North Washington Street before bursting into flames. Rescuers After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they located the driver, who was deceased.

Linda Engel, 66, died Monday afternoon about 3:50 p.m in a two-vehicle crash on Book Road north of 83rd Street, in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. Two other people were hospitalized. Engel was traveling alone at the time, with the other vehicle occupied by a couple.

Engel was pronounced dead at Edward Hospital in Naperville. The coroner’s office spokeswoman said no autopsy was performed, but an external examination of Engel’s body showed she died of injuries from the crash.

At least four people were reportedly hurt in the third crash that occurred late Monday afternoon near North Aurora Road and Enterprise Drive on Naperville’s far northwest side.

Firefighters and paramedics were sent about 1:45 a.m. Monday to a crash on Washington Street between Bauer Road and Fourteenth Avenue. A southbound van apparently left the roadway, slammed into a tree on the west side of Washington Street and exploded in flames.

The fire department dispatched eight ambulances in 90 minutes, following the crashes on Book and North Aurora roads.

All three crashes remain under investigation. Potential witnesses to the Washington Street and North Aurora Road crashes were asked to call the Naperville police traffic unit, at 630-305-5379; while witnesses to the Book Road crash were asked to call the sheriff’s office at 630-407-2400.
