Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Two people were killed and at least six others were injured in three traffic crashes that occurred with 16 hours of one another Monday (7/11/16) in Naperville and an adjacent, unincorporated area of DuPage County.

A spokeswoman for the DuPage County coroner’s office said investigators as of Tuesday had been unable to make a positive identification of the remains of a motorist who was killed when a van slammed into a tree early Monday morning on North Washington Street before bursting into flames. Rescuers After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they located the driver, who was deceased.

Linda Engel, 66, died Monday afternoon about 3:50 p.m in a two-vehicle crash on Book Road north of 83rd Street, in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. Two other people were hospitalized. Engel was traveling alone at the time, with the other vehicle occupied by a couple.

Engel was pronounced dead at Edward Hospital in Naperville. The coroner’s office spokeswoman said no autopsy was performed, but an external examination of Engel’s body showed she died of injuries from the crash.

Firefighters and paramedics were sent about 1:45 a.m. Monday to a crash on Washington Street between Bauer Road and Fourteenth Avenue. A southbound van apparently left the roadway, slammed into a tree on the west side of Washington Street and exploded in flames.
