Correction: Lt. Coglianese was lost on Super Bowl Sunday, 1986, when the Bears beat the Patriots.

I did not know that Double E was at the Paxton hotel fire. I do know that he was at the 1973 Forum Restaurant fire that had three LODDs and the 1976 Com Edison fire that killed FF Wally Watroba of Engine 13. As a DDC, he had the E2 night club tragedy and the 69 W. Washington Street fire, with six civilian deaths, in the same year, 2003.
No stranger to tragedy, he was captain of Engine 98 when he lost one of his lieutenants, Edmond Coglianese, to an arson fire on superbowl Sunday, 1987. He saw combat in Vietman with the Army and he used to say. “I’ve gone to war as many times with the fire department as I did in Vietnam”.
He talks about the Forum Restaurant fire at the Illinois Fire Service Insitute memorial page website.

#6 by Douglas on June 19, 2014 - 3:40 PM
I feel bad that he had to experience a lot of horror tragic events in the job

I was on Engine 83 back then we would have 1 to 2 fires everyday also Ambulance 31 was the busiest Ambo in the city untill 2004-2005 i think they responded to that call because i heard ithem left and heard their call sign on the radio and i knew Chief Double E because he was at the Paxton Hotel Fire on LaSalle St which was a deadly 5-11 alarm and we were the 6th Engine on the scene

It is hard to hear the fire alarm operator, but I’m pretty sure she says 1140 West Monroe. The buggy heads west at Madsion and Halsted, indicating that the fire is west of Halsted (800 west).
A 2-11 or 3-11 back than was not unusual and might not even have been mentioned in the news.

It was a 3-11 alarm 1140 West Monroe.
I believe the companies were
Engine Companies 103, 26, 14, 30, 5, 18, 1, 8, 23, 22, 4, 13, 19, and 7(RIT)
Truck Companies 7, 2, 19, 4, 11, and 58 (RIT)
Tower Ladders 5, and 10
Squad 1
Command Van 271
Battalion Chiefs 1, 2, 3, and 4
Deputy Chiefs 2-2-1
EMS Chief 4-5-1
Ambulances 45, 28, and 31

Yes Engine 7 and Truck 58 were there
#11 by Douglas on June 18, 2014 - 3:46 PM
Where was the location of the fire, was it ever on the news

He was actually permanently in the 6th District for a short period of time because the higher ups shuffled all the DDCs around for some strange reasoning.

The battalion chief is retired Deputy District Chief Edmond “Eddie’ Enright, a/k/a Double E. A highly respected and well liked firefighter. A class act. I believe he was a third generation firefighter. He was a FF on Engine 98, then Snorkel Squad 1, a lieutenant on Squad 3, and Captain of Engine 98 (one of several father and son combinations that were captains of Engine 98), then 3rd Battalion, before retiring as 1st District DDC. I don’t know if he was assigned as 6th District DDC or if he just relieved there a lot. He worked at some of the city’s worst and deadliest fires and disasters over his long career.
I am pretty sure there is actually a minute or two edited out of the video. He responded to the still and box from Engine 22’s house at Armitage and Larrabee. He seems to jump from old town to the intersection of Halsted and Milwaukee pretty quick.

Quite the drive or so it seemed. Nice that traffic was light.

Nice vid, the classic long coats with the whole-lime reflexite stripes looked so great! Pity its gone now.
