Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD (more) James F. Carney

Excerpts from the Chicagotribune.com:

Anytime when newcomers joined the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, Lt. James Carney always was the first to welcome them with kindness and respect.

So during Carney’s three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer, his fellow firefighters were determined to support him on his final journey, which ended Dec. 17. Carney was 43.

Years after joining the district, Carney was diagnosed with duty-related cancer in 2013 after medical examinations determined the disease was the result of repeated exposure to carcinogens while fighting fires.

Born in Waukegan on June 27, 1974, Carney grew up on his family’s farm in Wadsworth with his parents and sister Kelly He attended St. Patrick Elementary School and later Warren Township High School. After attending Columbia Southern University, Carney began his career as an on-call member of the Newport Township Fire Protection District in Wadsworth and went on to earn his paramedic license.

In July 2000, he was hired by the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, where he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in December 2006, developing the reputation for remaining calm, no matter how dire the circumstances.

Carney is survived by his wife Janelle; daughter, Peyton; son, Brett; his parents, Fred and Vicki; and sister, Kelly.

Family and friends are set to gather Friday morning at St. Patrick Church, 15000 Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth, where a funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.

thanks Dan

Deerfield-Bannockburn and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD firefighters were sent to 601 Eagle Court in Riverwoods Sunday afternoon for reports of fire in the rear of the house. as seen by neighbors. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire prior to any units arriving based on reports that the house was well involved.  Lincolnshire Engine 52 arrived first and had flames showing in the rear. They reported that the fire was on the exterior of the house in the rear and they hit it with a line. Deerfield Engine 20 was the second suppression unit on the scene. House fire in the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD, 6-2-17

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD (LRFPD) was called to 24341 Elm Road early Friday morning (6/2/17) for the report of an ATV on fire. A followup call apparently notified dispatchers that the fire had spread to the attached garage. Lake Forest Engine 422 arrived first  and advised that they had a fully-involved garage fire. LRFPD Engine 52, Squad 51, and Battalion 51 arrived right behind the first engine and all three suppression units exhausted their tank water on the initial attack. Countryside Engine 411 arrived with the Lincolnshire units and supplied their tank water inline as well. The home is located in an unincorporated area of Lake Forest without hydrants.

On arrival, Battalion 51 upgraded the alarm to a Code 4 for the working fire and simultaneously a MABAS Box Alarm was struck which would bring several water tankers in addition to supplemental fire suppression companies. Portable tanks were dropped from Long Grove and Countryside tankers, While Long Grove drafted from the portable tanks supplying the engines at the scene, tankers from Countryside, Wauconda, Grayslake, and the Palatine Rural FPD shuttled water to the scene from a hydrant roughly a mile away.

The fire was largely contained to the garage with some extension into the house and attic.

Fire in a Lincolnshire hotel, 10-31-16

This from Larry Shapiro:

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods companies were sent to the Springhill Suites hotel at 300 Marriott Drive around 10:30PM Monday (10/31/16) for a fire alarm. After receiving calls from the premises reporting smoke and flames seen in the pool area, the alarm was upgraded to a Code 3 with an additional engine.

On arrival, the hotel guests were evacuating and a heavy smoke condition was observed in the room with the swimming pool. The alarm was then upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire.

Due to heavy smoke conditions, it took several minutes for firefighters to find the origin of the fire and extinguish it. After searching, venting, and checking air quality on all the floors, guests were allowed back into their rooms.

In addition to Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engines 52, 53, Truck 51, Ambulances 51 and 52, and Battalion 51, mutual and auto-aid companies included Buffalo Grove Engine 27, Long Grove Squad 55, Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19, Lake Forest Truck 421, Wheeling Truck 24, Buffalo Grove Battalion 4, Deerfield 20, and Lake Zurich Ambulance 4.
