Wheeling police and firefighters were sent to 189 South Milwaukee Avenue around 4:15PM on Sunday (8/9/20) for a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment. The location was within blocks of Wheeling Station 24 and the battalion chief was on the scene quickly. He reported a one-car MVA with extensive damage and entrapment after the car had apparently crossed two lanes of traffic before striking a retaining wall at 189 S Milwaukee and then completely sheered off the front porch of a building at 213 S. Milwaukee before coming to a stop in the adjacent parking lot. Wheeling companies were assisted at the scene by Prospect Heights Ambulance 39 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD Engine 52.
A passenger in the car signed a medical release at the scene and the driver was transported to an area hospital after being extricated from the wreck.

Buffalo Grove police and fire were dispatched for a woman pinned under a car this morning (7/17/20) in the Chase Plaza shopping center at Lake-Cook and Arlington Heights roads. The woman’s leg was caught underneath her car which apparently was in neutral instead of park when she exited the vehicle. Patrons of the nearby stores were able to shift the car into park before police officers and firefighters arrived. The car was raised with airbags to facilitate the victim’s release. She was then transported to an area hospital.

Wheeling firefighters and neighboring auto-aid companies were dispatched for a confirmed fire at 15 Brougham Drive shortly before 4PM on Friday (7/10/20). Police officers were confirming a fire and the header was visible for miles from a burning mobile home in the Whippletree Village mobile home community off of McHenry Road in Wheeling. First arriving companies found a mobile home trailer completely engulfed by fire with flames communicating to neighboring units on either side. Initial reports which proved to be inaccurate were that two children might have been trapped inside. The first engine company on the scene initiated a defensive attack. Both Wheeling engines had lines off and all auto aid and mutual aid companies provided manpower support.
Crews attacked fire in three mobile homes and dealt with high ambient temperatures. The original fire building was destroyed and the adjacent units suffered extensive damage to the point of becoming uninhabitable.
Wheeling firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Prospect Heights, Buffalo Grove, Northbrook, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Schaumburg, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Lake Forest, and Lake Zurich.

Des Plaines firefighters responded to 701 Albany Lane shortly after noon Tuesday for a fire. Companies arrived to find fire in the attic and through the roof of a two-story house. The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes and out of town companies were released not long after arriving in the staging area.
Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Long Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, and Palatine Rural FPD companies were dispatched to 21231 Brandon Road in Kildeer after 10PM on Monday for a reported structure fire. Arriving companies found a car on fire in the driveway that had extended to the attached garage of a two-story house. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm which brought additional units from Barrington Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside FPD, Nunda Rural, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Wheeling.
Companies made quick work of knocking down the fire while it still appeared to be in the garage. The portable tank and tanker shuttle were not used. Long Grove Tanker 55 provided water to supplement Lake Zurich Engines 324 and 325 infant of the house.

Buffalo Grove police officers and firefighters were sent to a motor vehicle accident today (6/29/20) in the east bound lanes of Lake-Cook Road just west of Raupp Boulevard in a construction zone. A car traveling westbound reportedly crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a large dump truck carrying asphalt. Firefighters extricated the driver of the car who was entrapped and later transported to a hospital in serious condition. The man, later identified as John Rodgers IV, 49, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The truck driver was unharmed. The roadway remained closed to allow an accident investigation team to reconstruct the incident.
